Italy-based Directa Plus is working on technological innovations in order to develop graphene-based smart textiles. The company uses graphene, a thin layer of carbon, light yet strong in nature, to enhance thermal and electrical performance of textiles. Through its unique Graphene Plus technology, Directa Plus, will be offering multi-functional products for different textile applications.
Giulio Cesareo, CEO & Founder, Directa Plus, told Fibre2Fashion, “We always start by working on a product that enhances existing markets and has real-life applications, before moving on to consider future markets and futuristic products. For example, in the textiles sector we started from an innovative idea-printing a planar thermal circuit with Graphene Plus (G+)-and we used it to create products that are now commercially available. From this point, we’ll evolve towards smart textiles, which will have applications for future markets that are yet to develop.”
By incorporating G+, brands can create a unique range of products with thermal and electrical conductivity and bacteriostatic properties such as thermal regulation, heat dissipation, energy harvesting, data transmission and no-odour effect. Directa Textile Solutions, a subsidiary of Directa Plus, provides the G+ technology for different applications in sportswear, fashion, footwear, vehicle upholstery, interior design, and wearable technologies.
Earlier this year, Directa Plus collaborated with Eurojersey SpA, a producer of high quality warp-knit technical fabrics under its Sensitive Fabrics brand, to produce a range of fabrics containing the company’s graphene-based products. The advanced fabric with G+ is highly thermally conductive. It allows a homogeneous distribution of the heat produced by the human body in cold weather and a heat dispersion effect in hot weather, thereby offering comfort to the wearer. (HO)
