Prices of paraxylene in Europe are growing

Paraxylene Prices Europe polyethylene terephthalate PET MOSCOW  – The players of the polyethylene terephthalate (PET) market are preparing for higher production costs amid rising prices for raw materials – paraxylene, ICIS reports citing market participants.

One of the traders said that he expects that the contract price of paraxylene in February will be at the level of EUR815-820 per tonne, FD Europe. He expects that in March paraxylene prices will remain at the same level, or slightly increase to EUR820-830 per ton.

Initially, it was expected that the February contract price of paraxylene would rise in February in comparison with the level in January, but the dynamics of the euro exchange rate against the dollar did not help it to come true.

Earlier it was reported that the contract price of paraxylene in Asia for February supplies was approved on January 31 at the level of USD970 per ton.

Paraxylene is a raw material for the synthesis of terephthalic acid – a semi-product for the production of polyethylene terephthalate (PET).

According to the Price Review of ICIS-MRC , by the end of 2017, PET imports to Russia decreased by 13% to 130 thousand tons against 149 thousand tons a year earlier.
