Prices of PET remained unchanged in Europe last week
MOSCOW ( MRC ) – Domestic prices for polyethylene terephthalate (PET) in Europe remained stable last week, as the market froze ahead of the December contract price adjustment, ICIS reports citing market participants.
Prices remained unchanged at EUR
1,030-1,080 per tonne, FD Europe. The imported material was estimated at the level of EUR900-1,000 per tonne, with buyers preferring European materials.
Market participants reported high demand in Spain and Poland, where local producer PKN Orlen declared force majeure for the supply of terephthalic acid (TPA) from its production capacity of 600 thousand tons per year in Wloclawek, Poland.
In other areas demand remained seasonally low.
In addition, market participants reported that the Lithuanian producer NEO GROUP postponed the launch of its new line with a capacity of 160 thousand per year in Klaipeda until the third quarter of 2018.
Also, the Indian company JBF Industries resumed production on the PET line in Gel (Geel, Belgium). This line with a capacity of 432 thousand tons of PET per year was closed in August. The line returned to work last week thanks to the help of the Swiss trading company MB Barter & Trading SA
According to the Price Review of ICIS-MRC , in Russia prices in the market as a whole remained at the level of last week. The representative of the producer Senezh reported an increase in the lower limit of spot prices per 1,000 rubles per ton. Domestic prices are under pressure of the factor of growing quotations for raw materials and granules in the Asian market.
