Invista Wolf Gray Cordura TrueLock fibre

New Wolf Gray Cordura TrueLock fibre launched Invista Wolf Gray Cordura TrueLock fibre

Invista’s Cordura brand has announced its latest innovation in solution-dyed nylon (SDN) 6,6 fibre technology with mill partner MMI Textiles, a premier supplier and one-stop shop supplying fabric, webbing and elastics. MMI Textiles is the exclusive North American provider of fabrics and webbing made with the new Wolf Gray Cordura TrueLock fibre, now through December 2018. Invista Wolf Gray Cordura TrueLock fibre

Cordura TrueLock fibre is created from Invista nylon 6,6 multi-filament fibre that is solution dyed, locking the colour in at the molten polymer extrusion level to create deep, durable colour throughout the entire fibre structure. Colour consistency is crucial when pairing fabric with other materials, such as webbing and elastic to create uniform garments and gear, the company explains. Invista Wolf Gray Cordura TrueLock fibre

Invista Wolf Gray Cordura TrueLock fibre

“Gray is one of the most commonly used colours in military/tactical applications but was previously one of the most difficult to match, with several varying proprietary versions of Wolf Gray on the market,” said Nick Rivera, director of operations at MMI Textiles. “One of our customers – TyrTactical – was having challenges matching webbings and fabric and came to us for a solution. We then turned to Cordura brand.”

Innovative fibre offering

“After examining six different shades of grey together, we worked hand-in-hand to create our latest innovative Cordura TrueLock fibre offering,” said Allen Mortimer, North American regional manager and product manager at Cordura brand. “The Wolf Gray shade of Cordura Truelock fibre offers colour that is uniform across the components of gear and apparel, and durable enough to stay true after exposure to the elements and intense military missions.” Invista Wolf Gray Cordura TrueLock fibre

The colour achieved with Cordura TrueLock fibre is said to have inherent Near-Infrared (NIR) capabilities, is abrasion and UV-fade resistant and does not bleed or crock. With colour-fastness locked in at the fibre level, shade consistency lot-to-lot and across multiple textile components (such as fabric and webbing), UV strength stability, and long-lasting vibrancy are made possible.

Invista Wolf Gray Cordura TrueLock fibre

The process of colour encapsulation used in Cordura TrueLock fibre also offers several environmental benefits such as reduced water and energy consumption, and reduced dye and chemical usage in textile processing, according to the manufacturer.

Major milestone

The announcement is a major milestone for Invista’s Camden, SC facility, which expanded last year to increase US capacity of high-tenacity, specialty fibres for Cordura fabrics. The Camden investment has accelerated progress in the development of new SDN capabilities – which complement the facility’s existing high tenacity nylon 6,6 filament fibre manufacturing processes.Invista Wolf Gray Cordura TrueLock fibre

In addition to Wolf Gray, solution-dyed Cordura TrueLock fibre is available in Desert Sand, Tan, Coyote, Ranger Green, Camo Green and Black. Plans currently being put into action at Camden include expansion of the Cordura TrueLock filament product line to introduce additional standard colours and deniers, as well as the flexibility to work to smaller minimum order quantities and custom colourways. Invista Wolf Gray Cordura TrueLock fibre

“Throughout our 50-year journey, we’ve worked to establish a foundation built on durable and long-lasting fibre technologies, including our legacy of solution dyed, high-performance nylon 6,6 offerings,” said Cindy McNaull, global Cordura brand and marketing director. “The launch of our latest Wolf Gray Cordura TrueLock fibre is a testament to the strength of supply chain collaboration – a joint effort between an end-user, gear manufacturer, fabric supplier and fibre business.”

Tyr-Tactical gear in Wolf Gray is currently being put to the test by the Phoenix, AZ, SWAT Team.

New 89-oz juice bottle with integral handle switches from PETG to new PET formulation, goes from resin code PETE 7 to code PETE 1.

The Coca-Cola Co. finished a three-year project with plastic producer Indorama Ventures and converter CKS Packaging to create a new recyclable bottle for its Simply brand juices. The 89-oz bottle with integral handle, named Diamond Award Finalist, uses Indorama’s Polyclear EBM PET 5507 resin. CocaCola Orange sustainable Packaging Innovation

It’s molded using extrusion blow-molding equipment from Bekum. The resin’s high melt-strength and slow crystallization allow it to be processed on existing extrusion blow-molding equipment. CocaCola Orange sustainable Packaging Innovation

“In support of our World Without Waste initiative, we are working to build better packaging that is 100 percent recyclable and includes more renewable and recyclable material,” says Jordan Mattison, Senior Engineer, Packaging Innovation, Coca-Cola North America.

“The commercialization of this material innovation allows for the recycling of the 89-oz Simply package with the Resin code#1 PET stream and aligns with our sustainability goals.

The conversion of the 89oz Simply package to a recyclable material was only possible through close collaboration and a shared commitment to sustainability with our resin supplier Indorama Ventures, our converter CKS Packaging and our equipment OEM Bekum.” CocaCola Orange sustainable Packaging Innovation

This new PET replaces the previous PETG bottles known to melt more easily than their PET counterparts, wreaking havoc on the PET recycling process.

In fact, recyclers traditionally have had to remove handled PETG bottles from the stream because of the material’s proclivity to stick to other materials and shut down the process. Because of this, PETG bottles were forced to carry the PETE 7 resin identification code.

Polyclear EBM PET is recognized by the Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) and was granted official Critical Guidance recognition for protecting the integrity of the PET recycling stream. The resin is a semi-crystalline polyester that, importantly, can carry the PETE 1 resin identification code. CocaCola Orange sustainable Packaging Innovation

The 89-oz Simply juice bottle is the first commercial application for the plastic, but it may have the legs to make inroads in other arenas. One such area may be handled liquid laundry detergent or other household products with formats currently dominated by opaque PP or HDPE. CocaCola Orange sustainable Packaging Innovation

-$100 Oil Isn’t as Outlandish as You Might Think

If you came here to find out when oil will reach $100 a barrel, I’m sorry to disappoint. The thousands of factors that go into the price of oil at any given time make it hard to put a timestamp on prices. Demand can wax and wane with global economic growth, and supplies can’t always react fast enough to keep prices consistent. Plus, since the word of OPEC carries such gravity with the global market, those without a Being John Malkovich – style door into the minds of OPEC ministers have no chance of knowing what prices will do over the next few weeks or months.

-US September PS prices settle at increase

US September polystyrene (PS) contracts have settled at an average increase of 2 cents/lb ($44/tonne) following higher feedstock prices in August.

The price increase comes amid mixed pressure in the market between the higher August feedstock prices and some falling feedstock prices this month.

ICIS benzene, ethylene and styrene spot prices increased in August, but only ethylene prices have notched further gains in September.

Typically, September is a lower demand month for PS, but it is still better than it will be later in the year.

Lower benzene and styrene spot prices this month are in contrast to higher ethylene spot prices. That scenario will add mixed pricing pressure heading into October.

-OPEC and non-OPEC allies have reportedly agreed to review current oil production as a countermeasure to the lack of Iranian oil caused by the US sanctions.

On Friday, the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) reported that in August, the organization’s countries supplied less oil to world markets than they did in July, which eventually led to a rise in the price of oil in September to $80 a barrel, three OPEC and non-OPEC sources told Reuters.

“There are discussions to increase production by another 500,000 barrels per day (bpd). They [OPEC and non-OPEC producers] can increase output when they meet in December,” the sources said, referring to the next scheduled OPEC meeting on December 3. But if the organization wished to address the shortage before then, it would have to convene an “extraordinary meeting.”

CCBSA energy and sustainability manager JP Blumenthal detailed the company’s engineering work to make their PET beverage bottles lighter, called lightweighting, which has seen the weight decrease from 54 g for a 2 litre bottle about 11 years ago to 45.7 g currently, with a wall thickness of about 0.3 mm. The company has validated further lightweighting and can reduce the weight of a 2 litre bottle to 41.8 g, which it would phase in over the next six months.

-Hand sanitizers, antibacterial wipes: Bad for you?

Your friend may be onto something. The so-called “Hygiene Hypothesis”—first put forth by British epidemiologist David Strachan in a 1989 paper in the medical journal Thorax—suggests that a lower incidence of infection during early childhood (thanks to more sterile, less crowded environments as compared to earlier times) could explain the rapid rise in allergic diseases in the late 20th century. As the theory goes, in the modern world our immune systems no longer have to deal with the vast numbers of potential real pathogens we experienced during the previous stages of our evolution. With so much more time on their hands, our antibodies rise up against other perceived dangers—gluten, peanuts, milk—which in fact are not really threatening. Our immune systems’ over-reaction manifests itself in the form of pesky and occasionally life-threatening allergies.
