The volume of the first batch is 170 tons.

Azerbaijan’s SOCAR Polymer LLC began exporting the first batch of polypropylene to Turkey on Oct.5, the Director General of the company Farid Jafarov told reporters on Oct. 5. SOCAR Polymer batch polypropylene PP

The volume of the first batch is 170 tons.

Presently, the plant has already produced 6,000 tons of polypropylene, Jafarov said.

“I would like to note that the successful implementation of this project, in the first place, was made possible thanks to the state support.SOCAR Polymer batch polypropylene PP

It is not only about infrastructure, but also tax benefits and other forms of support for residents of industrial parks. In general, the project managed to save about 200 million manats,” Jafarov said.SOCAR Polymer batch polypropylene PP

“SOCAR Trading, which is a part of the Azerbaijan state oil company, since its inception, has increased the price difference between Azerbaijani oil and Brent oil and drew approximately $1.5 billion to the state budget. Today we can see what it is like to be part of a large, centralized trading system. New producers, in particular of polymers, are forced to sell products at a discount of 10-15 percent during the first stages in order to gain a foothold in the market. We sell the very first batch at average market prices,” he added.

The SOCAR Polymer project is being implemented at the Sumgayit Chemical Industrial Park. The production capacity of SOCAR Polymer factory at the first stage will amount to 120,000 tons of polyethylene and 180,000 tons of polypropylene. The total capacity of the factory can reach 570,000 tons of products by 2021.SOCAR Polymer batch polypropylene PP

The factory will produce 19 types of products made of polypropylene and 12 types of products made of high-density polyethylene. The products will be used, in particular, in the food and medical industry, as well as in agriculture and automobile production.

The total investment costs of the project are estimated at $816 million. The credit in the amount of $489 million has been allocated to SOCAR Polymer by Russian Gazprombank for a period of 10 years.SOCAR Polymer batch polypropylene PP

KINGSPORT, Tenn., USA —At the Première Vision show in France, Eastman will launch Naia™, a versatile, cellulosic yarn, into the womenswear market. A filament yarn that transforms into luxurious, soft, and easy-to-care-for fabrics, Naia™ is also a sustainable option for fabric manufacturers. Eastman Naia Cellulosic Yarn Sustainability

To make Naia™, the process starts with renewable pine and eucalyptus wood, sourced exclusively from sustainably managed and certified plantations in North America, Western Europe and Brazil.Eastman Naia Cellulosic Yarn Sustainability

In April, Eastman received chain of custody certifications from the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) and Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification™ (PEFC™) for its sustainable sourcing of wood-pulp. FSC® and PEFC™ chain of custody certifications verify the traceability of Eastman’s wood-based raw materials through the entire supply chain and required Eastman to meet rigorous standards and undergo an on-site audit completed by SCS Global Services.Eastman Naia Cellulosic Yarn Sustainability

All suppliers of raw materials for Naia™ hold either FSC® or PEFC™ chain of custody certification.Eastman Naia Cellulosic Yarn Sustainability

Naia™ is produced in a safe, closed-loop process where non-hazardous chemical solvents are recycled back into the system for reuse. This optimized, low-impact manufacturing process with a low cradle-to-yarn carbon and water footprint has a third party verified Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) certification compliant with ISO14044. Naia™ is also listed on the HIGG Materials Sustainability Index and has lower impact than other fibers such as generic modal, viscose, and triacetate.Eastman Naia Cellulosic Yarn Sustainability

Naia™ is OEKO-TEX 100 Product Class I certified and is made with no hazardous solvents listed on the ZDHC Manufacturing Restricted Substances List. Naia™ has an optimized, low-impact manufacturing process with a low tree-to-yarn carbon and water footprint. In terms of greenhouse gas emissions, water usage, and impact on the ecosystem compared to natural fibers like cotton and silk, Naia™ has significantly lower environmental impact.

“At Eastman, we are committed to improving sustainability in the textiles industry and providing choices to designers seeking out sustainable yarns,” says Ruth Farrell, Eastman global marketing director of Textiles. “With Naia™, sustainability does not mean compromising on design.”Eastman Naia Cellulosic Yarn Sustainability
