MOSCOW  – The contract price of monoethylene glycol (MEG) for September in Europe was agreed at EUR1,012 per ton, which is EUR13 per ton higher than the previous month, ICIS reported on Friday citing confirmation from the second buyer and the second seller .

Previously, the initial contract price for the material was agreed between one seller and one buyer also by EUR13 per ton above the level of August, but then, after being agreed, other market participants did not support it.September contract price MEG Europe

The contract price is considered fully agreed upon after confirmation from at least two manufacturers (suppliers) and from two consumers.September contract price MEG Europe

The negotiations on the September contract price of MEG in Europe were very long, and the market had to wait for the final price negotiation.September contract price MEG Europe

Earlier it was noted that the contract price of MEG in Europe for the August deliveries was approved at the level of EUR999 per ton, which is EUR11 per ton below the July level.

MEG is the main raw material component for the production of PET.

According to the ICIS-MRC Price Review , in the Russian market, the cost of PET for contract customers in October rose sharply. Spot prices have not changed.

Researchers within the Graphene Flagship project, one of the biggest research initiatives of the European Commission, showed that integrated graphene-based photonic devices offer a unique solution for the next generation of optical communications.

Researchers in the initiative have demonstrated how properties of graphene enable ultra-wide bandwidth communications coupled with low power consumption to radically change the way data is transmitted across the optical communications systems.

This could make graphene-integrated devices the key ingredient in the evolution of 5G, the Internet-of-Things (IoT), and Industry 4.0. The findings were published in Nature Reviews Materials and highlighted on the cover.Graphene unique potential future telecommunications

“As conventional semiconductor technologies are approaching their physical limitations we need to explore entirely new technologies to realise our most ambitious visions of a future networked global society,” explains Wolfgang Templ, Department Head of Transceiver Research at Nokia Bell Labs in Germany, which is a Graphene Flagship partner.

This industrial and academic partnership, comprising companies and research centres in five different European countries, has developed a compelling vision for the future of graphene photonic integration.

The team involves researchers from CNIT, Ericsson, IMEC, Nokia, Nokia Bell Labs, AMO, ICFO and the University of Cambridge.

A company based in Trento, Italy, has chosen Woodland as its second location in the United States for a multi-million dollar carpet recycling facility.

The Woodland plant — known as ACR No. 2 — will perform the same function, according to Kathy Long, brand communications manager of an Aquafil facility in Cartersville, Georgia.

She said the decision to put a plant in Woodland was made in April. Members of the Woodland City Council toured the facility in the 500 block of Pioneer Avenue several weeks ago.Aquafil carpet recycling USA plant Woodland

When completed by spring 2019, the $12 million facility will employ 50 people full time with three shifts of eight hours each. Workers needed include those with mechanical, electrical and technical skills.

Long said the building in Woodland is actually twice the size of what’s needed and that the firm intends to sublease a portion of it. “We already have a subtenant, Cutting Edge, they make mobile homes, and we are looking for a second.”

“I’m thrilled to have them here,” he said at a council meeting two weeks past.

Long said since it was founded in 1969, Aquafil has been one of the leading players — both in Italy and globally — in the production of polyamide, or Nylon 6. The Aquafil Group has a presence in eight countries on three continents, employing more than 2,700 staff at 14 plants located in Italy, Germany, Scotland, Slovenia, Croatia, the U.S., Thailand and China.

Right now, the plant in Phoenix is on track to recycle 16,000 tons of used carpets a year that would otherwise end up in landfills. The recycled material is used for filler in concrete and asphalt. The fibers reclaimed can also be sued for new fabrics, clothing other things.

Each year in the U.S., about 4 billion pounds of carpet is discarded in landfills.

“We’re not comfortable with the status quo – in this case that less than five percent of carpet waste is recycled,” said Aquafil CEO Giulio Bonazzi. “We know Nylon 6 waste can be powerful with the proper technology …”Aquafil carpet recycling USA plant Woodland

Carpet recycling has historically been a challenge due to the many different materials used, along with designs that do not allow for easy separation. At both the Phoenix and Woodland plants, Aquafil is seeking to avoid the use of petroleum, reduce carbon emissions and give waste “an infinite number of lives without sacrificing quality.”

ClosedLoop Fund announced today a $1.5M investment in rPlanet Earth’s first plant located in Vernon, Calif. rPlanet Earth is the world’s first completely vertically integrated manufacturer of post-consumer recycled PET (rPET) and multiple high rPET content packaging products under a single roof, creating a much needed market for PET packaging collected from curbside recycling programs across the state.

In addition to the Closed Loop Fund investment, rPlanet Earth also received a $3 million grant and $4 million in loans from California’s Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle).

-Nigeria’s daily oil production rises to 2.16 million barrels

The nation’s production of crude oil, including condensate, rose to 2.16 million barrels per day last month, the highest level so far this year, the Ministry of Petroleum Resources has said.

Nigeria, Africa’s top oil producer with a maximum production capacity of 2.5 million bpd, had before now suffered declines in output largely on the back of security concerns in the Niger Delta.

The latest data obtained by our correspondent from the petroleum ministry showed that oil production in the country stood at 2.145 million bpd in August, up from 1.968 million bpd in July; 1.896 million bpd in June and 1.826 million in May.

A report in India Today magazine said India is engaging its allies and partners across the globe to seek a solution to the impending crisis.

It stated that India’s Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale had met representatives of many countries including the EU representative in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in September.

“The conversations revolved around alternate payment options for continuance of oil imports from Iran,” it said.

The European Union is in discussion with all the stakeholders to find a legal instrument to allow transfer of payments. While they are still in the process of setting up that mechanism, it would be an option that their partners such as India could avail, the report added.

Singapore — Although several new refineries with massive paraxylene capacities are expected to start up in China over the next few years and potentially shatter China’s PX import demand, there are also several new downstream purified terephthalic acid plants expected to start over the same period, which could support the import market, sources pointed out this week.

Midweek, the bears were uncaged, and Brent crude fell $5 per barrel. But stability prevailed by the end of the week. Brent started the week at $84.16 per barrel and settled at $80.43 on Friday, while WTI fell from $74.34 to $71.51.

Oil prices fell despite renewed dips in Libya’s crude oil output. A major factor in the oil price tumble was an Oct. 8 report from the IMF, in which it downgraded global economic growth forecasts for 2018 and 2019 to 3.7 percent per annum, from 3.9 percent, which would consequently lower oil demand.

President Donald Trump signed legislation Thursday committing the United States to expand efforts to clean up nearly 8 million metric tons of litter polluting the world’s oceans.

Known as the Save Our Seas Act, the bill received unanimous bipartisan support as it passed through the House and Senate this July before landing on Trump’s desk for a signature Thursday morning.

Sika is adding strength and capacity to its Mexican product supply chain in the Automotive sector with the opening of a new manufacturing facility in Querétaro, Mexico.

The new factory, which includes an integrated logistics center, will manufacture and locally supply Sika’s full range of acoustic treatments and body structural products for the growing number of Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) assembly and component makers located in the country.

The Mexican subsidiary of Faist ChemTec, acquired by Sika at the start of 2018, will also be integrated into the new facility.

Angola, Africa’s second largest oil producer, has ramped up its financial ties with Beijing, but perhaps to its own detriment, The country’s state newspaper Jornal de Angola said on Wednesday that the country had secured $2 billion in Chinese funding from the China Development Bank for infrastructure projects.

Angolan President João Lourenco secured the financing during his first visit to Beijing, the report added.

Details of the deal were not released, according to various media outlets.
