Nyltec Polymers Recycled PET Nylon Resin

Newcomer Nyltec Polymers Offers Novel Recycled PET/Nylon Resin  Nyltec Polymers Recycled PET Nylon Resin

NyLester is positioned as a cost-efficient, environmentally-friendly alternative to nylon 6.

A patent-pending engineering resin that blends a proprietary nylon with 90% recycled PET is newly available by young startup company Nyltec Polymers, Marietta, Ga. Aside from its very favorable sustainability profile, NyLester has been positioned to compete with nylon 6. Nyltec Polymers Recycled PET Nylon Resin

Company president Patrick Patin says, their process is mechanical.

“We blend our proprietary and patent-pending mix of nylons directly with recycled or virgin PET to make NyLester with no additional additives or chemical processes (just dry hoppers and an extruder).

However, NyLester will accept additives, just like nylon 6 for reinforcement etc.”

The company will also aim to license the NyLester resin technology to select companies globally by selling NyLester as an additive masterbatch.

“We are planning to sell our masterbatch internationally and have our customers, recyclers or distributors compound it with locally sourced recycled or virgin PET.

You see, every container of the masterbatch will make 10 containers of NyLester resins, so not only will this be more cost effective but it’s also more environmentally friendly by shipping 90% less material around the globe. Nyltec Polymers Recycled PET Nylon Resin

While working on a different project, the Nyltec team discovered that their masterbatch blends completely and naturally with PET upcycling it into an engineering resin that matches the physical properties of nylon 6 in almost every way (NyLester isn’t brittle like nylon 6), while maintaining the best properties of both PET and nylon: heat resistance, chemical and corrosion resistance, impact resistance, and flexibility.

Excellent durability and surface appearance are also claimed for NyLester which is said to “fall right out of the mold”—no sticking, or mess, and is well suited for injection molding, extrusion, blow molding, rotomolding, and thermoforming of a broad range of products where nylon 6 is used, including automotive components. Nyltec Polymers Recycled PET Nylon Resin

Says Patin, “After having NyLester tested at ARDL (Akron Rubber Development Laboratory) back in September of 2018, we knew we had something the market wanted and needed. So, we decided to form Nyltec Polymers.

But despite being so new, we have managed to find companies willing to run some trials with NyLester in several different markets including 3D Fusion Printing (SLS) at FormLabs, contract carpet in Dalton, GA, and are now working with an injection molder in China who makes hundreds of different products. Nyltec Polymers Recycled PET Nylon Resin

He’s going to feed PET and our masterbatch in-line directly into his injection molding machine, saving him time and money since our masterbatch will yield him NyLester at a price that is well below the cost of nylon 6 in China (and America, by the way)… by a significant margin even after international shipping and customs fees.”

Whereas nylon 6 is currently selling for around $1.70/lb, if not more through distributors, Nyltec is aiming to sell NyLester to the majority of its buyers for $1.35/lb.

-Saudi Arabia’s energy minister emerged from days of heated OPEC talks joking that he wasn’t an easy man to be friends with.

Yet, the deal Khalid Al-Falih hammered out to reduce production by 1.2 million barrels a day, which sent oil prices soaring on Friday, was based on Saudi Arabia shouldering the lion’s share of the cuts.

It also relied, to an unprecedented extent, on Russia to broker an agreement between the Saudis and their archrivals, Iran, and acknowledged implicitly that there’s little the kingdom could do to hurt surging U.S. oil shale without causing itself pain.

“Saudi economic self-interest trumps Trump,’’ said Mike Rothman, president of Cornerstone Analytics Ltd., a veteran of three decades of OPEC meetings.

-Opec yet to agree on final deal as Iran seeks exemptions

Iran appeared yesterday to be the main obstacle for an Opec deal to cut oil production as the group’s leader, Saudi Arabia, has yet to agree on exemptions for sanctions-hit Teheran, two Opec sources said.

The Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (Opec) resumes discussions in Vienna during the day before heading into a meeting with non-Opec oil producers led by Russia.

On Thursday, Opec tentatively agreed to an oil output cut, but could not decide concrete parameters for reductions as it was waiting for a commitment from non-Opec heavyweight Russia, sources from the group said.

Yesterday, two Opec sources said Saudi Arabia’s arch-rival Iran, which came under fresh United States sanctions last month, was also holding up a final deal.

-City professor makes food-safe bioplastic with expiry date

ICT researcher Ramanand Jagtap develops catalyst that will decompose plastic within set time; experts hail invention as solution for our plastic problem.

The Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT), Mumbai, might just have the answer to not just the city’s but the world’s plastic problem. Prof Ramanand Jagtap from the institute has developed a chemical agent, which when moulded with plastic
material can later aid its biodegradation. While existing biodegradable plastics need a controlled environment for decomposition by microorganisms, the ICT’s innovation purportedly does not need pre-set conditions and starts degrading on its own after a given period of time.

-Oil prices rise on planned Opec cuts

Major oil producers have agreed to cut production by more than one million barrels per day in a bid to boost energy prices.

Opec members, as well as countries allied with the cartel led by Russia, announced the plans on Friday, sending the price of Brent crude up almost 5%.

The cuts are due to start in January and last six months.

The plans come as the industry is grappling with a roughly 30% slide in prices since October.

The fall has been spurred by forecasts for lower demand, as well as a surge of shale production in the US.

-Bioplastics may not be better for climate: Study

Bioplastics — often promoted as a climate-friendly alternative to petroleum-based plastics — may lead to an increase in greenhouse gas emissions, according to a study.

The study from the University of Bonn in Germany suggests that shifting to plant-based plastics could have less positive effects than expected.

An increased consumption of bioplastics in the following years is likely to generate increased greenhouse gas emissions from cropland expansion on a global scale.

Plastics are usually made from petroleum, with the associated impacts in terms of fossil fuel depletion but also climate change.

-Blow Molding: Faster Mold Changes for PET ISBM Machine

A new quick-mold-change (QMC) system from SIPA of Italy for its ECS SP single-stage injection stretch-blow molding (ISBM) machines reportedly slashes changeover times by about 25%. New features also include added safety and user-friendliness.

These hybrid machines are suited to molding containers from pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, personal-care products, and spirits, especially in sizes from 20 to 50 ml. They come with injection clamps of 55 and 88 tons.

The QMC system involves a new automated procedure for loading/unloading the preform core plates; this incorporates additional sensors to ensure that the mold-opening stroke is adjusted to the preform length.

Operations for assembling and disassembling the neck-ring plate have also been modified. A new, patent-pending system now allows the procedure to be carried out safely by one person instead of two.

$ 60 per barrel instead of 100 americans have tried (Akhbar Al-Khaleej)

With the approaching date of the signing of the law on introduction of US sanctions against Iran, the most important among which are the sanctions prohibiting Iran to export its oil (the volume is 1.5 million barrels per day), there were expectations that as a direct result of this move will be to increase prices due to lack of supply.

It was assumed that Washington will turn to Saudi Arabia to cover this deficit and contributed to maintaining stability in the oil market.

Saudi Arabia produces 10 million barrels per day with a reserve capacity of two million barrels, but fearing the delay in meeting the demand, many importing countries began to increase reserves.

Saudi fears are that some countries have stocks, put them on the market and then prices will fall.

-Glut vs Opec cuts – what’s next for oil?

The bear market for crude oil appears to be settling in for the short term, with both Brent crude and WTI benchmarks shedding percentage point after percentage point for 7 weeks.

Oil market conditions are once more out of balance, at least from the oil bulls’ point of view. On one side of the scale, US shale keeps ramping up production to record levels. On the other side of the scale, Opec supply cuts are losing weight as investors remain skeptical on whether the group can mitigate the resurgent oil glut amid signs the global economy is slowing down again.

As of November 25, crude oil’s bull run appears to have rear-ended the decelerating China juggernaut, and has come to a crashing halt. The market has moved rapidly from a peak to reversal to correction to bear territory, giving investors little time to think.

-OPEC, Russia Agree To Cut Oil Output

OPEC announced Friday that it will reduce overall production among its members by 800,000 barrels a day from October’s levels for six months, starting from January.

The statement may have been written on Thursday, the day of the OPEC meeting because didn’t specify the output cut by nonmembers, which include Russia. But reports put the non-member cuts at 400,000 barrels a day (with most of the cut falling to Russia) to bring the total reduction to 1.2 million barrels a day.

On Friday, January WTI crude rose 2.2% to settled at $5US2.61 a barrel, while February Brent crude finished at $61.67, up 2.7%. They were up 3.3% and 3.6% respectively for the week.

USA exporter crude oil shale boom

US becomes net exporter of crude oil on shale boom

For the first time in decades, the United States last week was a net exporter of crude oil and petroleum products.

That distinction — revealed in US Energy Information Administration data released Thursday — is the latest sign of how the shale boom has lifted the United States’s standing on global petroleum markets, prompting talk of ‘’energy dominance’’ by President Donald Trump.

It’s quite a change from the situation that defined American energy for decades after the 1970s oil shocks led to a US ban on oil exports in 1975. The US reversed the policy in late 2015.

New petroleum recovery techniques such as hydraulic fracturing, leading to major new oil production in North Dakota, Texas, Pennsylvania and other states.

The US currently pumps out 11.7 million barrels per day of crude, making it competitive with the largest global oil producers, including Saudi Arabia and Russia.

According to Thursday’s EIA data, the US exported 3.2 million barrels of crude per day and 5.85 million barrels per day of refined products for the week ending November 30.

During the same period, imports of crude were 7.22 million barrels per day and refined products were 1.62 million barrels per day.

Together, the two streams mean the US was a net exporter by 211,000 barrels last week, the data show — the first time it has reached that distinction since the EIA began collecting data in 1973.

Analysts do not necessarily expect the US to remain a net exporter every week, but the shale boom has undeniably altered the picture of American energy.

‘’With the US oil production growing, with the continued growth in refined product exports, we knew that was going to happen eventually,’’ said Kyle Cooper of IAF Advisors.

Beyond the surge in exploration and production of crude, the United States also benefits from a robust network of petroleum refineries.

‘’You continue to see the refineries run at very high rates as a result of the billions of dollars of investments made many years ago in highly specialized units that are very efficient at turning crude into refined products,’’ Cooper said.

Other supportive elements of US refining include comparatively cheap crude oil and lower prices on natural gas and electricity that fuel the plants.

Profit margins for US refineries ‘’are just better than their global competitors,’’ Cooper said.

The US petroleum boom has also transformed the landscape for other major crude producers, who currently face pressure due to a big slide in oil prices this fall, in part due to robust American output.

Members of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, led by Saudi Arabia and in concert with non-member Russia, are meeting in Vienna to try to hash out a deal Friday to cut output.

OPEC members were unable to reach agreement on Thursday and scrapped a planned news conference.

Trump weighed in on the proceedings on Twitter, reiterating a call to keep pumping generously.

‘’Hopefully OPEC will be keeping oil flows as is, not restricted. The World does not want to see, or need, higher oil prices!’’ said Trump, who has repeatedly accused the cartel of keeping prices artificially high.

OPEC ministers reacted to Trump’s intervention by telling him not to interfere.

‘’We don’t need permission from anyone to cut,’’ said Saudi energy minister Khalid AlFalih.
