MOSCOW  – Spot prices of high-density polyethylene (LDPE) fell in the European market at the end of last week to the lowest level since 2012, and even lower, approaching the level of 2010, ICIS reported citing a statement from some buyers. .

According to them, last week some LDPE prices overcame a barrier of EUR1,000 per tonne, FD NWE (North-West Europe), although not all polyethylene (PE) brands could be purchased at this price. LDPE polyethylene prices Europe

Some price proposals for the material reached EUR1,100 per ton, but it was unclear how many deals were concluded at the above prices.

The demand for LDPE was sluggish at the beginning of this year, and this factor, combined with a fall of EUR40 per ton of ethylene contract price in January, led to an immediate expectation of a decline in PE prices.

2012 was the year when European producers of PE had very low revenues, and part of the production was closed forever.  Many of these closures fell on the production of low-pressure polyethylene (HDPE), where the profit was the worst.  HDPE is currently a net imported product in Europe.  LDPE polyethylene prices Europe

Since then, naphtha quotes have become more competitive, but the production of material from ethane still provides the best revenue.

A decrease in naphtha prices means an increase in the cracking margin, but currently the variation between ethylene and PE prices is very small, even with the most recent ethylene contract price drop of EUR150 per tonne in December and January combined.

At present, negotiations on the January contract prices of PE in many cases have not yet reached their peak.  However, the decline in PE prices by EUR20 per ton is already obvious, but buyers believe that this is not enough.

According to the ICIS-MRC Price Review , the first week of January in the Russian market of LDPE was quite active, processors began to replenish their inventories.  At the same time, the volume of purchases of LDPE due to the seasonal factor is still small.  Some processors are still expecting a reduction in LDPE prices under pressure from low demand and excess supply.  In the meantime, following the results of the first working week this year, prices have been rising.

MOSCOW  – Mogilevkhimvolokno Company has commissioned the production of polyester fiber by direct molding, Belta reports. Mogilevkhimvolokno modern polyester fiber

The launch of a new production is the first phase of a large-scale investment project “Polyester Production Complex”.

New equipment with a capacity of 50 thousand tons per year will provide a new range of synthetic fiber, which is in demand in the markets of near and far abroad.

According to Deputy Prime Minister Igor Lyashenko, who participated in the opening ceremony, there are no products of such high quality, especially conjugate-type fiber, in the space of the Eurasian Economic Union.  He also said that the development of a technology of the second stage of enterprise development is already underway with Chinese partners. Mogilevkhimvolokno modern polyester fiber

“Chinese experts also confirmed that such a modern technology for the production of polyester products does not yet exist even in China. Therefore, our proposal, which sounded for the Russian side, did not waste duplicate investments in the city of Ivanovo to create similar production, has been implemented.” Mogilevkhimvolokno modern polyester fiber

The new production was put into operation 5 months earlier than the standard terms, which brought the company savings of about 6–7 million dollars, and the annual income from the products sold would be about USD9–10 million.

The first 120 tons of output have already been shipped to Russia.  According to the director general of Mogilevkhimvolokno, Peter Rudnik, the main task of the enterprise is to reach the designed capacity as quickly as possible, which is supposed to be done in the first half of 2019.

Currently, the second stage of the investment project for the development of the enterprise is in the active discussion stage. It involves the construction of a technically linked continuous PET polycondensation unit, polyester fiber production lines, an additional polycondensation unit and technical yarn production.

According to ICIS-MRC’s Price Review , Mogilevkhimvolokno shipped in January to the CIS countries the SPET brand 8200 L, produced on the basis of DMT.  This brand differs from traditional PET by a higher melting point on average by 10 ° C and some other characteristics.  Export price for CIS countries reduced to EUR980 per tonne, FCA Mogilyov, excluding VAT. Mogilevkhimvolokno modern polyester fiber

Mogilevkhimvolokno OJSC is the only large producer of dimethyl terephthalate in the Republic of Belarus, PET polyester granules, including food grade, polyester fibers and threads, and the main supplier of raw materials for light industry.  State share – 90.53%.

Brexit and no-confidence vote: Corbyn targets ‘zombie government’

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has called Theresa May’s administration a “zombie government” that “cannot govern” and urged its resignation.

Opening a debate on his no-confidence motion, Mr Corbyn said the government “should do the right thing and resign” after Tuesday night’s huge defeat.

Mr Corbyn is hoping to force an election, but senior party figures accept they are unlikely to succeed.

The no-confidence vote is expected to be held at about 19:00 GMT.

“The prime minister has consistently claimed that her deal, which has been decisively rejected, was good for Britain workers and business… she should have nothing to fear by going to the people,” he said, referring to a general election.

Starlinger’s recoSTAR dynamic 145 offers greater efficiency for film recyclers

In 2018 Vienna-based recycling technology manufacturer Starlinger supplemented its recycling line recoSTAR dynamic with a seventh machinery size – the recoSTAR dynamic 145 – which is designed for a capacity range of ~1,000kg/h.

This was prompted by inquiries from the area of post-consumer film (e.g. packaging film, agricultural film), wherein just such a capacity was requested.

The first three lines are currently being installed and the company has already received orders for additional machines of this type.

Just the right size

The recoSTAR dynamic 145’s predecessors, the recoSTAR dynamic 125 and 165 (the numbers indicate the screw diameter in millimetres), were under- or oversized respectively for this capacity. The 145 is designed for about one tonne of regranulate and shows an optimal cost-benefit ratio.

Global Markets and Technologies for Bioplastics

The focus of this report is on plastics made from renewable resources such as biomass or food crops. There is also some potential development of bioplastics from animal resources.

Plastics that could be produced from waste CO2 are also reviewed because of their potential impact on bioplastics, but their data are not included in the forecasts presented here.Bioplastics are further defined here as polymer materials that are produced by chemically or biologically synthesizing materials that contain renewable organic materials.

Natural organic materials that are not chemically modified (e.g., wood composites are excluded). The report includes the use of renewable resources to create monomers that replace petroleum-based monomers such as feedstocks produced from sugarcane that are used to manufacture polyester and polyethylene. Ethanol, a major product in Brazil, is one small chemical step from ethylene.

China’s Slowing Economic Growth Could Wreak Havoc On Oil Markets

Despite renewed hopes that a fresh trade deal could be reached between the U.S. and China by the two sides’ self-imposed March 2 deadline, it may still not be enough to offset the negative impact on China’s economic growth already being felt.

Sources told Reuters last week that Beijing is planning to lower its economic growth target to 6 percent,

The analysis comes as China saw its exports fall unexpectedly in December by 4.4 percent, the most in two years, with imports also falling 7.6 percent in their biggest decline since July 2016.

Since exports fell in December, in spite of government efforts to boost growth (including higher infrastructure spending and tax cuts), exports could also falter for several months going forward as domestic growth slows.

Ratings agency Moody’s also said in a note that “producers price inflation had decelerated for six consecutive months,” adding to other signs of cooling industrial activity (in China) amid weakening global demand.
