Flight Plastics installed a multi-sensor sorting line including two bottle sorters.

A grant enables the parent company Flight Group Ltd. to open New Zealand’s first PET recycling plant in Wellington and spend NZ$ 12 million (US$ 8.8 million) on a full upgrade at its facility including a wash plant for PET bottles.

Flight Group was established in 1907 and initially made leather luggage. It is still privately held by members of the original Osborne family owners. Flight moved into plastic production in the 1970s. It also has PET product manufacturing plants in Adelaide, Australia, and Romsey, England. Sesotec sorting systems PET recycling

Keith Smith, CEO of Flight Plastics Ltd in Wellington said the wash plant and other work at the facility enables Flight Plastic to produce thermoformed packaging from recycled PET bottles. The company installed extrusion equipment to use recycled PET flakes starting in 2014, using imported flake to prove the process and establish a customer base.

They had very encouraging results, so the next step was to install their own wash plant. Flight Plastic has the capacity to recycle 6,000 metric tons of PET a year. It gets feedstock from curbside collections around the nation, which collect about 8,000 tons annually.

the investment in a wash plant, Flight Plastics installed a multi-sensor sorting line including two bottle sorters and a flake sorter. These three systems secure the output quality as well as a continuous supply of PET flakes to the production line.

After the upstream process steps such as bale breaking the bottles are feed to Sesotec‘s VARISORT MN multi-sensor sorting system.Sesotec sorting systems PET recycling

This system was installed for the separation of PET bottles from other polymers (near infrared sensor N) as well as metals (metal sensor M). Flight Plastics also decided to install a further VARISORT CN. This second VARISORT is equipped with colour sensors C and near infrared sensor N for material identification and sorts as well as cleans the PET bottles into a transparent clear and a coloured fraction.Sesotec sorting systems PET recycling

Those sorted bottles are feed into a cutting mill where they are cut to the desired flake size and passed through a washing and drying process. In the next step Sesotec‘s FLAKE PURIFIER multi-sensor-sorting-system is used for a final cleaning of the PET flakes. Here the remaining off-colours, wrong polymers and small sized metal pieces will be removed. This multi-sensor configuration equipped with a high resolution out-blast system allows highest possible sorting efficiency combined with lowest possible material loss rates. Depending on the application the three sensors can be used individually or in combination.

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Oil futures rose more than 2 percent on Wednesday after a surprising plunge in U.S. crude inventories and as OPEC’s de facto leader Saudi Arabia appeared unfazed by pressure from U.S. President Donald Trump to prevent oil prices from rising.

Crude inventories fell by 8.6 million barrels last week, compared with analysts’ expectations for an increase of 2.8 million barrels, the U.S. government reported. U.S. crude imports fell to an all-time low of 2.6 million bpd, in the wake of declining OPEC production and U.S. sanctions against Venezuela.

Filters feature ultrafine microperforations for melt filtration in PET recycling.

With filtration fineness of 60 µm, self-cleaning ECO melt filters by Ettlinger, Königsbrunn, Germany, part of Maag and Dover, Downers Grove, Illinois, are designed to facilitate treating recycled material for use in the film, packaging tape and fiber industries.

The filters help plastic recyclers remove challenging contaminants, such as paints, silicones, barrier materials, cross-linked fractions and gels, from the melt.

In particular, the new filter screens will enable cost-efficient conversion of postconsumer polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottle flakes and fines into recycled material, according to the manufacturer.

The Kroger Company (KR:  NYSE) has been around since the late 1800s.  It has developed into a major retailer of a broad range of food products in its supermarkets that also feature specialty sections such as pet centers, electronics, apparel, toys, and pharmacies.  Kroger stock is selling at a bargain multiple of 6.6 times trailing earnings.

The 2.0% current dividend yield is icing on Kroger’s cake.

Kroger is distinguished among other grocery retailers with its pledge to achieve zero waste.

The company is aiming to recycle or reuse at least 90% of its waste.  Sustainable product packaging is a central part of its zero waste plan.

For example, Kroger is using a new plastic milk jug that requires 10% less plastic compared to regular plastic jugs.

The company is also revising instructions on its Our Brands private label to promote recycling.

As consumer demand for plastic-free and plant-based products soars, large consumer goods firms are prioritising vegan products and recyclable packaging over low-carbon innovation, new research by CDP has concluded.

CDP’s new ‘fast-moving consumers’ report, which ranks 16 of the world’s largest consumer goods companies on their readiness for the transition to a low-carbon economy, reveals that 60% have begun investing in biodegradable plastic alternatives and recycling infrastructure, with Danone leading the charge.

The report attributes this trend to a “tide of consumer activism” on plastic packaging, which has resulted in the consumer goods sector facing increased pressure to develop circular or zero-waste offers, while noting that the demand for plant-based products is now following a comparable trajectory.

Leading specialist weaver of technical textiles Arville will once again take its place among the sector’s biggest names and innovators at Techtextil in Frankfurt, from 14-17 May. Arville will headline its integrated manufacturing capabilities, covering the design, weaving, coating and fabrication of bespoke textiles – suitable for demanding end applications in a wide range of industries including defence, aerospace, pharmaceutical, and automotive sectors.

Groundbreaking New Product Offers Reduced Environmental Impact and Lower Costs

Now Plastics, one of the world’s largest suppliers of films and aluminum foil, is now targeting European markets with a groundbreaking line of films made from 60 to 90% PCR PET resin. The European Union has recently outlined a stringent policy on single-use plastics as part of its transition to a more circular economy for plastics. As a result, Germany, France and the United Kingdom have all taken steps to heighten restrictions on all plastics used in food packaging.

The PCR PET films offered by Now Plastics are especially geared to the consumer packaged goods (CPG) industry and will enable European converters and manufacturers to comply with the new sustainability goals. The films use an extremely high content of recycled PET materials which have been fully sanitized and reconfigured into film grade resin, making it environmentally sensitive and 100% compliant with sustainability requirements.

Oil prices rise after Saudi Arabia appeared undaunted after President Donald Trump called on OPEC to slacken its restrictions on crude production.

Saudi Energy Minister Khalid al-Falih said OPEC and its partners were “taking it easy” in response to the tweet from Trump.

U.S. crude stockpiles plunged by 8.6 million barrels last week, the Energy Information Administration reports.

Oil prices surged more than 2 percent on Wednesday after government data showed an unexpected and sharp drop in U.S. crude stockpiles.

Prices were already higher after Saudi Arabia’s influential energy minister brushed aside pressure from President Donald Trump to tread carefully as OPEC and its allies cut output.
