MOSCOW – Chinese Hainan Yisheng Petrochemical plans in July 2019 to commission a new paraxylene plant with a capacity of 1 million tons per year at a new site in Hainan (Hainan, China), ICIS reports, citing a source in the company.

Construction of production began in August 2017 and completed in March of this year. The project cost is CNY3.54 billion (USD557 million).Hainan Yisheng Petrochemical paraxylene

Commercial output is expected on horseback in July. Earlier it was planned to start the plant in June.

The company also plans to upgrade its existing paraxylene production capacity of 600 thousand tons per year on the same site.

After completion, the company will be able to produce about 2 million tons of para-xylene per year.

Earlier it was reported that at the end of June 2017, Hainan Yisheng Petrochemical launched a plant for the production of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) at a site in Hainan (Hainan, China) with a capacity of 250 thousand tons of PET per year.

According to ICIS-MRC’s Price Review , Chinese PET quotes last week stopped rising and rolled back from the local highs of the previous week. The situation in the Russian market of PET granules remains calm, there is enough material on the market, processors replenish stocks as planned. Next month, an increase in contract prices for PET is expected. However, against the background of the strengthening of the ruble against the dollar in July, the rise in prices will be moderate and will not exceed 3,000–4,000 rubles. per ton. MOSCOW – The American company AdvanSix, a division of Honeywell, a corporation engaged in the production of resins and chemical products, intends to close the plant for the production of polyamide films in Pottsville (Pottsville , Pennsylvania, USA) in the third quarter, the manufacturer said. AdvanSix Honeywell polyamide film

At the same time, the company announced a strategic alliance with the Oben Group, a manufacturer of films for the production of flexible packaging. These measures will allow AdvanSix to “increase productivity in this industry,” added Erin Kane, CEO.

Earlier it was reported that AdvanSix still did not remove force majeure for the supply of phenol from the plant in Frankford (Frankford, Pennsylvania). The company in early March of this year was forced to announce force majeure on the supply of these products because of problems with the supply of raw cumene. Then problems with the supply of cumene were caused by weather conditions on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico and restrictions on suppliers in the previous few weeks before the announcement of force majeure. The plant’s capacity is 1.1 billion pounds of phenol per year (about 500 thousand tons per year) and 608 million pounds of acetone per year (308.4 thousand tons per year). This plant is the third largest producer of phenol and acetone in North America. AdvanSix uses cumene derived from benzene and propylene to produce phenol and acetone.

Phenol is the main raw material component for the production of bisphenol A (BPA), which, in turn, is used to produce polycarbonate (PC).

According to Scan Report Company Market Report, the total estimated PC consumption in Russia in January-May 2019 was 33.8 thousand tons, which is 20% less than in the same period of 2018 (28.2 thousand tons).

-Flexible design for recycling: From theory to practice

The focus will be on new developments in purely polyolefin packaging solutions to replace previously preferred mixed laminates. Furthermore, the possibilities of using post consumer recyclate (PCR) and renewable raw materials will be presented on the basis of various applications.

In the context of design for recycling, the requirements for flexible packaging have changed considerably, with the introduction of the German packaging law and public pressure. The challenge lies in implementing the changes for already established packaging concepts. The decisive factor here is that the functionality of the packaging material is maintained in the course of the material change.
