Price quotations PET in China went down amid declining quotations TPA

Polyethylene terephthalate PET China

MOSCOW – Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) price quotations in China fell last week amid falling terephthalic acid (TPA) quotes, ICIS reported.

For example, some buyers on July 23 reported lower price proposals for material at around USD930 per tonne, FOB China, although this was not confirmed by the producers, who noted that some price proposals, although they went down, were still on level USD960-975 per ton, FOB China.

Spot quotes in the week ending July 19 were in the range of USD950-970 per tonne, FOB China.

According to the ICIS-MRC price review , the demand for PET preforms in the Russian market in July was predictably lower than June.  In August, its further decline is expected.  The Chinese quotation continues to aggressively decline, so a significant increase in Russian contract and spot prices in the next two months is not expected.

As reported, the data adds to speculation that Beijing may risk running afoul of American sanctions to secure crude supplies from the Islamic Republic.

All eyes are on China’s oil purchases as Donald Trump’s administration continues to clamp down on companies and individuals flouting its restrictions.

The import-reliant Asian nation is one of the few remaining buyers of Iranian barrels, after other countries such as South Korea and Japan halted flows.

China imported about 494,000 barrels a day of Iranian crude in the first five months of this year, compared with more than 660,000 barrels a day in the same period in 2018.

-On battleground Iran, a crude China versus US standoff

AN interesting new variable is getting into the ‘crude’ play — its China versus the United States. And Iran is the battleground.

Almost three months have elapsed since the US slapped sanction on crude imports from Iran.

Washington’s intentions were clear. It wanted to bring Tehran to its knees. It wanted to bring down its crude exports to almost zero. But things don’t appear going that way. China is standing in between. Despite the US sanctions, Iranian crude continues to flow into China. Petrochemicals OxoBiodegradable BioBased

Chevron and Exxon are beefing up their petrochemicals focus as demand for fossil fuels wanes

Companies like Chevron CVX -1.52% and Exxon Mobil XOM -0.16% earned that moniker for a reason, but as the petroleum market gets less lucrative and demand projections wane, their investments have shifted.

Not long ago it was in the direction of natural gas, oil’s cleaner-burning hydrocarbon cousin. But so much of the fuel is being produced out of U.S. shale formations that the focus has shifted to adding value to it now. Investing in petrochemicals is as close as one can get to a no-brainer given the surfeit of the feedstock in North America.
