Innovia Films is to extend its testing programme across all its uncoated, acrylic coated and EVOH barrier range of films.
This follows the successful recycling certification of its Propafilm™ Strata SL high barrier film earlier this year by Interseroh, an Independent German recycling and consulting company.
Currently there is limited collection of flexible films across Europe which means that this valuable resource is being wasted.
Coca-Cola has confirmed that it has no plans to stop using single-use plastic bottles.
Speaking with the BBC at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Tuesday, Bea Perez, Coca-Cola’s senior vice-president for sustainability and public affairs, said that the company won’t ditch these bottles as the consumer still wants to use them.

Turkish textile exporters have organized a fair in the U.S. to promote a full range of the country’s textile products.
The two-day event, called “I of the World,” kicked off for the first-ever time on Tuesday with the attendance of 32 companies from across Turkey, having been set up by the Istanbul Textile and Raw Materials Exporters’ Association (İTHİB).
Turkish Deputy Trade Minister Rıza Tuna Turagay stressed that the U.S. was a significant target market for the textile sector.Graphene Circular Economy ReNylon
Isko launched the R-TWO programme, which reduces the amount of raw materials by relying on a blend of reused cotton and recycled polyester, improving sourcing efficiency throughout the entire field-to fabric production, at the recently held IMPACT show in Paris. Isko, the leading ingredient brand on a global level, is the first denim producer in the world.Graphene Circular Economy ReNylon
IMPACT, the eco-responsible fashion event, was dedicated to established and up-and-coming fashion professionals. The show brought together committed brands who strive to achieve positive results in environmentally responsible fashion and who endeavour to introduce the agenda and criteria to French and International retailers.
-Agreement for research and development on graphene between Comerio Ercole and Directa Plus (Italian Language Only)
The agreement with the Lomazzo company concerns projects for the processing of plastics, rubbers and non-woven fabrics. Riccardo Comerio: «Our challenge is to identify the possible uses of graphene in our machinery and plants for selected and qualified customers» Graphene Circular Economy ReNylon
Comerio Ercole of Busto Arsizio, one of the most important engineering companies in the province of Varese, has signed an agreement with Directa Plus, a company listed on the London Stock Exchange and specialized in the production of pure graphene, to start joint research and development projects in the processing of plastics, rubbers and non-woven fabrics.
According to the agreement signed, Directa Plus will be able to use the laboratory for the Comerio Ercole prototypes for the process of polymers and elastomers with mixing and calendering machines, with the aim of producing and optimizing compounds containing Graphene Plus, a pure product extracted with a physical and non-chemical process. In addition to testing its technology for applications in the field of polymers and elastomers, Directa Plus will also promote its business and products to end consumers and users of the machines and systems marketed by Comerio Ercole, also through joint participation in international events and fairs.
That reached is an important agreement, because graphene, in addition to enriching the materials to which it is added by transferring some of its special features, has ample possibilities of use in all processing sectors, opening up a new research front for the company to achieve high-performance machinery for the new production processes that will be developed.
Through Repreve, Unifi has transformed more than 18 billion plastic bottles into recycled performance fibers.
Unifi Inc., Greensboro, North Carolina, will introduce a new product and further product expansion to the marketplace. The new additions include Repreve cationic-dyeable polyester and expanded Repreve Our Ocean offerings.Graphene Circular Economy ReNylon
Unifi continues to see strong interest in Repreve Our Ocean offerings since its launch as more customers are serious about reducing ocean plastics. Repreve Our Ocean is made with plastics collected within 50 kilometers of waterways or coastal areas in developing countries or regions, the company says in a news release.
After recently announcing their plans for a more sustainable future, Coca-Cola has decided that they will still meet consumer demand for wasteful packaging, making their earlier claim as redundant as a message in a single-use plastic bottle.
Coca-Cola is one of the largest enemies in the War Against Plastic. In a global audit of plastic waste in 2019, Coca Cola was found to be the most polluting brand. The company is thought to produce in excess of 3 million tonnes of plastic packaging a year which works out at 200,000 bottles every minute.Graphene Circular Economy ReNylon
The firm made a big claim in stating that they aim to recycle as many plastic bottles as they produce by the year 2030.
Margins for US polyethylene (PE) producers remain under pressure following a year of compression in 2019. Prices and margins have declined over the past year as significant capacity expansions have come online even as global GDP slowed to the lowest growth rate in a decade.Graphene Circular Economy ReNylon
US PRODUCTION COST ADVANTAGE
PE producers in the US Gulf enjoy some of the most favourable production economics in the world thanks to the availability of low-cost ethane feedstocks. Costs of production in the US are similar to those in the Middle East and well below production costs for Asian and European naphtha-based producers.
We’ve recently heard about a number of experimental antibacterial food-wrap films, that could replace conventional polyethylene. The latter does have some desirable qualities, though, so scientists have now developed a composite made from it.
Among other things, the polyethylene film that we’re used to is strong, transparent, gas-permeable and water-resistant. It doesn’t kill bacteria, though, which is where the new material comes in.Graphene Circular Economy ReNylon
Created by a team at Pennsylvania State University, it incorporates a polysaccharide polymer known as pullulan, which is infused with a naturally-sourced antibacterial called Lauric arginate. Both pullulan and Lauric arginate are already approved for use in foods.
Researchers at Graphene Flagship partner the Cambridge Graphene Centre, University of Cambridge, have developed a new type of resistive memory that can be scaled down beyond current limitations.
They also collaborated with colleagues at Soochow University to discuss the state-of-the-art technology and evaluate the future of resistive memories based on graphene and related materials (GRMs). Graphene Circular Economy ReNylon
Furthermore, Graphene Flagship partners at CNRS, France, and CSIC and ICREA, Spain, along with SAC member Luigi Colombo, analysed the properties and device structures required for practical GRM-based memory devices to reach their potential.
