Singapore — Polypropylene prices hit a 13 to 18-month high across Asia on Nov. 25 amid bullish fundamentals, few offers for international trades, and limited container availability.

The PP raffia CFR Fareast Asia marker soared $70/mt on the week to $1,125/mt on Nov. 25, the highest since May. 14, 2019, when the marker was assessed at $1,150/mt.

Similarly, the PP raffia prices rose $55/mt be assessed at $1,115/mt CFR Southeast Asia, hitting an 18-month high as well since May 2019. Meanwhile, the PP raffia CFR South Asia marker was up $50/mt on the week to $1,120/mt on Nov. 25, the highest since October 2019.

In conjunction with European Hydrogen Week, global power leader Cummins Inc. shared new research revealing that more than half of the United Kingdom (UK) commuters would be willing to travel to work on a train or bus powered by hydrogen to lower their carbon footprint and reduce emissions and nearly half of commuters in Belgium and Germany expressed the same view, said Hydrocarbonprocessing.

It follows an announcement by Croda last week. Croda says it has agreed to acquire the entire issued share capital of flavors and fragrances company Iberchem Group (Murcia, Spain) from investment company Eurazeo for EUR820 million (USD975 million) on a debt-free, cash-free basis. The sum will be funded via a combination of Croda’s existing debt facilities and the proceeds of a ?600-million (USD798 million) equity placing representing 8% of Croda’s issued share capital, the company says. Acquiring Iberchem marks Croda’s entry into the flavors and fragrances market. The transaction is expected to close by the end of 2020, Croda says.

The acquisition price represents a multiple of 20.5 times Iberchem’s estimated 2020 EBITDA, according to Croda.  “We have known Iberchem’s team for many years and their business is highly compatible with Croda’s. UK-based biotech company Toraphene is preparing to unveil the world’s first truly biodegradable, compostable and commercially viable alternative to plastic packaging.

The company has developed a new material, also called Toraphene, that uses biopolymers that compost naturally and biodegrade without human intervention, even in the ocean.

-GreenTech Romania enters the voluntary market for carbon certificates (VER) issuing 453,000 certificates resulting from PET waste recycling

Romanian company Green Tech, part of Green Group, is the first company in Europe validated by Gold Standard to issue CO2 certificates (VERs) resulting from PET waste recycling activity. Thus, Green Tech becomes the first company in Europe to issue 453.000 CO2 certificates, the equivalent of the tons of emissions saved by recycling PET waste over a period of 10 years. The validation of the project, named „Reducing CO emissions through PET recycling”, took 4 years, while rigurous measurements regarding emissions, energy and fuel consumptions were made throughout the entire PET recycling chain of operations performed  by GreenTech.

„GreenTech collects and recycles PET bottles, resulting new products made of 100% recycled content such as: PET strap, foodgrade rPET and recycled polyesteric staple fibers. Gold Standard validation is a recognition that obtaining new products at GreenTech from PET waste rather than using virgin input (petroleum based), 48% CO2 emission savings are achieved.
