Newly-endorsed products for leather goods …
The newly-endorsed ECO-CHECK products include one Evolon® microfilament textile application. This is a reinforcement material for leather goods that is manufactured with no solvent and no binder. It contains up to 80% recycled PET and is suitable for a broad range of applications. The material is produced at Freudenberg’s facility in Colmar, France, where the manufacturing process is highly sustainable: it is certified to STeP by OEKO-TEX® and fully complies with the DETOX TO ZERO by OEKO-TEX® criteria.

German automotive part manufacturer Continental has announced that its tires containing polyester made from recycled PET bottles are now available to all dealers in Europe.
Continental tires use the company’s so-called ContiRe.Tex technology, which can completely replace the conventional polyester in the tire carcass. Unveiled in September 2021 for the first time, the technology uses high-performance polyester yarn, which is obtained from used PET bottles without any intermediate chemical steps and is not recycled in any other way. This makes the technology both eco-friendly and much more efficient than other standard methods for processing PET bottles into high-performance polyester yarns.
The plastic bottles used for the technology come exclusively from regions without a closed recycling loop. As part of a special recycling process, these bottles are sorted and mechanically cleaned after the caps are removed. After mechanical shredding, the PET is further processed into granulate and finally spun polyester yarn.
Continental says a set of standard passenger car tires uses the material from around 40 recycled PET bottles. The Continental tires are reliable and remain dimensionally stable at high temperatures and under high loads.

Toyota Motor North America (Toyota), as part of its commitment to reduce its environmental footprint year after year and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, has embarked on a mission to create a sustainable, closed-loop battery ecosystem for its electrified powertrains. This mission focuses not only on the collection, testing and recycling of batteries into raw materials to create a sustainable supply chain, but also aims to develop second-life opportunities for remanufactured and repurposed Toyota hybrid electric vehicle batteries by leveraging battery health screening tools and empowering data from its vehicles.
In connection with these goals, Toyota and Redwood Materials (Redwood) will explore a series of end-of-life battery solutions for Toyota’s proposed battery ecosystem. Initially, this collaboration will focus on the collection, testing and recycling of Toyota hybrid electric vehicle batteries. Redwood Materials is driving down the environmental footprint and cost of lithium-ion batteries by offering large-scale sources of domestic anode and cathode materials produced from recycled batteries. Redwood receives more than ~6 GWh of end-of-life batteries annually for recycling, which are then refined and remanufactured into critical battery materials.
The partnership, called Sea The Future, will provide investment to build sorting and recycling plants. The first three hubs will be based in Indonesia, the Netherland and Brazil.
Switzerland-based packaging producer Amcor has partnered with the Minderoo Foundation Pty Ltd., a philanthropic initiative based in Australia, to launch Sea The Future, a project that will provide investment to build a global network of plastic recycling plants.
