September contract price of ethylene in Europe remained at the level of August

September contract price ethylene Europe remained  MOSCOW – The contract price of ethylene in Europe for September supplies was agreed at the level of EUR1,135 per tonne, which corresponds to the level of August, several sources of the market told ICIS on Thursday.

The contract price was approved on the basis of FD NWE (with delivery to North-Western Europe).

Two manufacturers and three consumers confirmed the agreement of this price, which is the minimum necessary configuration for the final negotiation of the contract price.

The prolongation of the August price for September is due to a relatively balanced situation in the market and minor fluctuations in the prices of raw materials – naphtha – compared to the previous month.

Earlier it was noted that in August the contract price of ethylene in Europe also remained at the level of the previous month.  And for the July deliveries, the contract price for the material in the region was finally agreed at the level of EUR1,135 per tonne, which is EUR15 per ton below the May level.  Ethylene is the main raw material component for the production of polyethylene (PE).

According to the ICIS-MRC Price Review , last week’s buying activity in the Russian high-pressure polyethylene (LDPE) market was low, many companies have already closed all their deals and paused until September.  In some segments of the LDPE, a limited supply remains.  In the market of low-density polyethylene (HDPE), price growth last week continued, including due to the devaluation of the ruble against the dollar.  In most segments of consumption there is an easy lack of supply, but there is no excitement in this regard.
