Crude Oil Prices Trend
-Northeast Asian import prices drop to 18-week low
Import prices of ethylene in Northeast Asia fell to an 18-week low, as the outbreak of coronavirus in China continues to curb production in the country, ICIS reports.
The fall in oil and naphtha prices strengthened the downward mood. Although local authorities in China have largely lifted restrictions on traffic, domestic sales of ethylene derivatives remain weak.North Chemicals Circular Economy Aromatics
-February MEG contract price in Europe agreed at EUR17 per tonne below January
The contract price of monoethylene glycol (MEG) for February in Europe was finally agreed at EUR608 per tonne, which is EUR17 per tonne lower than the level of the previous month.
The contract price of the MEG for February shipments was agreed on the terms of delivery of FD NWE (with delivery to North-Western Europe).
A minimum configuration of 2 + 2 producer-consumer is required in order to consider the agreements fully confirmed. The March agreement appeared along with the full agreement for February, but has not yet been confirmed.Chemicals Circular Economy Aromatics

As coronavirus goes global, chemical markets can expect a demand shock similar to the 2008 financial crisis, with the prospects of a recession in the first half of 2020 becoming increasingly likely.
In Europe, however, some chemicals markets have so far benefited from China’s disruption: there is good demand for polyolefins and polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), for example, as downstream customers stock up for March ahead of potential disruption in April.

Italian researchers from two Italian institutions have used graphene to develop a perovskite-silicon solar cell – a promising new solar technology – with an impressive conversion efficiency of 26.3%.
The researchers added graphene to the titanium dioxide electron selective layer used in a perovskite solar cell in order to increase chemical stability. The two-terminal cell was made by stacking two sub-cells which were fabricated and optimized separately. The new device blends the advantages of thin-film perovskite and silicon-based heterojunction cells, according to its developers.Chemicals Circular Economy Aromatics

The Polyplastics Group is offering an improved polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) grade which provides improved tracking resistance for a range of high-voltage automotive components. DURANEX (R) PBT CG7030 is a 30% glass-filled grade which also delivers strong dimensional stability and highly stable electrical resistance, and dielectric breakdown properties.
The automotive industry is undergoing drastic change with electrification gaining traction due to worldwide efforts to reduce the use of fossil fuels and cut emissions. As carmakers move increasingly to electric vehicles, demand for high-voltage components is expected to increase. -FDA Approves Full Recycled HDPE and PET Food Packaging
Erema Group got the go-ahead to use its technology to recycle HDPE into food and drink packaging and foodservice wares. Meanwhile, other companies got federal green lights for PET recycling.
Over the past seven months, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued three letters of no objection (LNOs) to companies involved in plastics recycling. The letters allow reclaimers to use their recycling technologies to produce recycled resin for use in food and drink packaging.
In issuing the letters, the FDA was convinced the recycling processes would result in contaminant concentrations of 0.5 parts per billion or less in the food, below its “threshold of regulatory concern.” Chemicals Circular Economy Aromatics
