AIMPLAS researches environmentally-friendly composites for the construction and automotive industries
AIMPLAS, the Plastics Technology Centre based in Valencia, Spain, is taking part in the European project ECOXY, coordinated by CIDETEC, researching epoxy resins and reinforcements for the construction and the automotive sectors, with better environmental and economically competitive characteristics.
New resin formulations are being used, which replace the hardeners commonly used by others which are dynamic, allowing recycling and make possible repair, reprocessing of materials, as well as chemical recycling.
Thirteen partners from eight countries take part in this project, within the EU’s Horizon2020 programme, to end in November 2020 with the manufacturing of prototypes produced with the new material. ECOXY has been funded by the Joint Technology Initiative on Biobased Industries within the EU H2020 research and innovation programme.
The fibre-reinforced composites are materials particularly useful for the automobile and construction industries thanks to low weight and the excellent mechanical properties that they possess.
