The European Composites Industry Association (EuCIA) has introduced Carbon Fiber Europe, a new alliance designed to support the sustainable growth and long-term competitiveness of the European carbon fiber sector. Created by major industry leaders—including Hexcel Composites SASU, Mitsubishi Chemical Europe, Teijin Ltd, and Toray Industries—the alliance aims to strengthen Europe’s position in high-performance materials and reinforce the essential role of carbon fiber in the continent’s industrial transformation.
A Strategic Alliance With a Clear Mission
Carbon Fiber Europe focuses on showcasing the positive societal impact of European carbon fiber technologies. Its mission centers on promoting innovative applications, ensuring safe use across industries, and supporting sustainability goals that align with Europe’s green and digital transitions.

Leadership Committed to European Industrial Resilience
During a recent meeting in Brussels, members elected the first leadership team of Carbon Fiber Europe.
Raf Bussels, Senior Director of EMEA R&D at Mitsubishi Chemical Group, will serve as Chair, while Axel Leuchter, Head of EU Sustainability Group at Teijin Ltd, will take on the role of Vice Chair.
Their combined experience brings scientific, sustainability and strategic expertise to the alliance, ensuring a strong foundation for future initiatives.
Roberto Frassine, President of EuCIA, emphasized the importance of carbon fiber in Europe’s industrial future. He highlighted how advanced composites contribute directly to Europe’s goals under the EU Clean Industrial Deal, supporting decarbonization, innovation and industrial resilience.
