-Asia’s benzene market remains on a downtrend partly as a result of slump in the crude oil futures, while market participants expect supply to remain ample for the rest of this year.

Weak US manufacturing data added further downward pressure on the crude markets with Brent crude futures slipping below $59/bbl.

Over in Asia, trade slowed down as China kicked off its week-long National Day holidays on 1 October.Circular Economy Composites Biopolymers

Demand for benzene is expected to be tepid this week with Chinese buyers out of the market.

Spot prices of benzene declined to below $700/tonne FOB (free on board) Korea this week, from $751/tonne FOB Korea on 17 September.

-Wittmann bringing a new era for robotics to K 2019

At K 2019, Wittmann will showcase numerous new robot models: two new appliances of the Primus series – Primus 16T and Primus 48T – as well as three models of the Sonic high-speed series: Sonic 131, Sonic 142 and Sonic 143.

Wittmann is just as proud of the newly developed WX138 robot, which will also be presented to the public for the first time.

Wittmann is famous for robots equipped with mobile X-axes, and in cases of flexible gripper design with various additional axes: that is, in complex automation solutions for injection moulding machines. Their design has a positive effect on the vertical dimensions of production cells, since it thus becomes possible to work with lower adapters.

-Ocean plastic waste probably comes from ships, report says

Most of the plastic bottles washing up on the rocky shores of Inaccessible Island, aptly named for its sheer cliffs rising from the middle of the South Atlantic, probably come from Chinese merchant ships, a study published Monday said.

The study offers fresh evidence that the vast garbage patches floating in the middle of oceans, which have sparked much consumer hand-wringing in recent years, are less the product of people dumping single-use plastics in waterways or on land, than they are the result of merchant marine vessels tossing their waste overboard by the ton.

-MEAF combines its rPET extruders with Kreyenborg IR-CLEAN system

As of today MEAF customers can order their rPET extruders with a Kreyenborg IR-CLEAN system for the drying and decontamination of post-consumer PET flakes for the production of food packaging in compliance with food safety regulations.

The extrusion part of the combination, a MEAF 90mm APET extruder with an inline IV measurement device, will be presented by MEAF at K 2019.

The use of a MEAF PET extruder in combination with the IR-CLEAN system offers food packaging manufacturers a solution that has been verified by a Letter of Non-Objection from the US FDA and is in compliance with the criteria established by EFSA, for the use of recycled materials for direct food contact packaging.

PET sheet producers can thereby meet strict recycling demands and take a major step towards circular PET production.Circular Economy Composites Biopolymers

-Toledo, Lucas Co. officials offer community recycling tips

It’s possible area residents are getting a little too gung ho about recycling.

That was one of the messages from Toledo and Lucas County officials Tuesday stressing the importance of proper and careful recycling. Each year, the city spends between $500,000 and $700,000 to address contaminated recyclables.

“I think the community has gotten into the habit of recycling,” Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz said. “But sometimes we’ve gotten so good at it that we’re recycling things that can’t be recycled. At a time when budgets are tight, we can’t afford to waste half-a-million dollars a year.”  Circular Economy Composites Biopolymers
