The European Commission has just allocated more than €358 million to fund 132 new projects under the LIFE Programme for environment and climate action. This significant funding injection advances Europe’s path to a clean, circular and resilient economy, supporting biodiversity restoration, industrial competitiveness and the EU’s long-term climate-neutral goals.
What this funding covers
The allocation covers slightly more than half of the total investment needs of the selected projects, with the remainder of the funding expected to come from national, regional and local governments, public-private partnerships, businesses and civil society organisations.

In Sweden, a project called ‘LIFE Woodmer’ (~€3.6 million) will convert waste-wood into biopolymers to reduce usage of hazardous chemicals and plastics in packaging and textiles.

In Spain, the ‘InBioSoil’ project (~€1.9 million) uses fungi to clean-up soils contaminated by persistent organic pollutants.
