Naphtha feedstock prices fell sharply in November, so market players expected a decrease in ethylene prices.
In addition, logistical and manufacturing problems as a result of the low water level of the Rhine River continue to affect the market.
Earlier it was reported that the contract price of ethylene in Europe for November deliveries was finally agreed at the level of EUR1,135 per tonne, which is EUR10 per tonne lower than the level of October.
Ethylene is the main raw material for the production of polyethylene (PE).
According to a survey by Scanport Company Market Report, in October, the total volume of PE production in Russia decreased to 109.8 thousand tons, whereas a month earlier the figure was 130.8 thousand tons.
The main reason for reducing operating time is preventive downtime at Kazanorgsintez, Stavrolen and Ufaorgsintez.
In general, in January – October, the total volume of polyethylene output reached the level of 1,456.1 thousand tons against 1,407.8 thousand tons a year earlier.
The production of HDPE and LDL increased, while the production of high-pressure polyethylene (LDPE) decreased.
