Northeast Asian import prices drop to 18-week low

MOSCOW- Import prices of ethylene in Northeast Asia fell to an 18-week low, as the outbreak of coronavirus in China continues to curb production in the country, ICIS reports.

The fall in oil and naphtha prices strengthened the downward mood. Although local authorities in China have largely lifted restrictions on traffic, domestic sales of ethylene derivatives remain weak.Northeast Asian Import Ethylene

Companies that acquire ethylene derivatives are gradually restarting their plants, and utilization rates can normalize in mid-second half of March.

Some of these companies previously asked their suppliers of raw materials to postpone supplies, while many others still kept their spot purchases to a minimum in March.

In recent weeks, affected suppliers to China have had to change the schedule of their vessels following the requests of their customers to cancel or reschedule supplies.

Ethylene consumption may gradually improve in the first half of March, and by then several companies are hoping to increase production.Northeast Asian Import Ethylene

According to ScanPlast of Market Report, in 2019 the estimated PE consumption in Russia amounted to 2,093.26 thousand tons, which is 6% more than the same indicator a year earlier. Deliveries of all types of polyethylene increased. PE supplies increased both from domestic manufacturers and from external suppliers.Northeast Asian Import Ethylene
