PET circularity – Revolutionizing Sustainable PET – Groundbreaking Innovations in Closures: How CSI’s Ultra-Light Omni Mini XP 26mm and Clariant’s Titanium AddWorks Revolutionize the Future of High-Performance, Eco-Efficient, and Sustainable Polyester Packaging Worldwide 22-10-2025

Clariant boosts PET circularity with titanium-based AddWorks

The global shift toward sustainability and circular production is reshaping how the packaging industry approaches polyester and PET materials. Two innovators — Clariant and Closure Systems International (CSI) — are leading this transformation through advancements that enhance performance, reduce environmental impact, and ensure long-term supply stability. Clariant boosts PET circularity with titanium-based AddWorks

Clariant has introduced a titanium-based AddWorks platform that replaces antimony catalysts traditionally used in PET production. This innovation not only improves efficiency in polyester processing but also addresses the environmental and supply chain concerns associated with antimony, which faces tightening export controls from China.

By switching to titanium, manufacturers gain a safer, more sustainable, and globally available catalyst option. The solution supports the circular economy by ensuring PET materials can be recycled more efficiently without contaminant residues.

It also improves product clarity, thermal stability, and production consistency, aligning with the growing demand for cleaner and more responsible packaging technologies.

CSI introduces the ultra-light Omni Mini XP 26mm closure

In parallel, US-based CSI has unveiled the Omni Mini XP 26mm, a breakthrough in sustainable PET closures for carbonated cold-fill and ambient-fill beverages. Weighing just 1.8 grams, it is over 10% lighter than standard 1881 one-piece carbonated soft drink closures. PET circularity

When paired with the 26/22 GME 30.40 bottle finish (weighing 2.7 grams), the combined system achieves a remarkable 25% reduction in bottle finish weight. This cut in material use translates directly into lower carbon emissions and significant savings in production and logistics.

Despite the reduced weight, the closure delivers best-in-class CO₂ retention up to 4.7 volumes, meeting or exceeding international bottling standards. Made entirely from recyclable high-density polyethylene, it is compatible with bottles from 250ml to 3L and available in multiple knurl patterns for enhanced design flexibility.

Driving the next generation of eco-efficient packaging

Both Clariant and CSI exemplify how innovation in materials science and engineering can create measurable sustainability gains. Clariant’s titanium AddWorks ensures greater recyclability and reduced dependency on restricted raw materials, while CSI’s lightweight Omni Mini XP closure cuts plastic use without sacrificing strength or sealing performance. Together, these solutions mark a major step toward smarter, greener, and more circular PET packaging. They reflect an industry increasingly focused on reducing carbon footprints, optimizing supply chains, and supporting brand owners in meeting ambitious environmental goals — all powered by advances in sustainable PET closures.
