-Digitalization to drive circular economy according to German waste association

“Digitalization will significantly change today’s circular economy,” according to Naemi Denz, the Managing Director of the Waste Treatment and Recycling Association in the German Engineering Federation (VDMA). Denz says that digitally transmitted information, for example, will ensure that secondary raw materials can be designed with even greater precision. This topic will be among many at IFAT 2020, set for Germany in May, 2020.

“In the future, the composition of the input material will be analyzed in real time and the treatment process will be controlled by the output,” says Denz. “For mechanical and plant engineering this means that the trend moves away from pure mechanical treatment. Measuring and analysis devices will be used more commonly, as are automation components.” Petrochemicals Automotive Carbon fibre

-Micromanufacturing using additive technology

Advances in additive manufacturing technology have not always led to bigger and bigger builds, as Tel Aviv, Israel-based Nanofabrica demonstrates.

The company has developed an AM platform that can produce miniaturized products and components with micron resolution features at volume.

Earlier this year, Israeli additive manufacturing innovator Nanofabrica commercially launched its micro 3D printing technology that reaches micron-level accuracy over a build envelope of 5 by 5 by 10 centimeters.

-Additive manufacturing won’t make other technologies obsolete

Amid the general euphoria about the opportunities presented by additive manufacturing, there are those who take a more level-headed view of the disruptiveness of the technology. Petrochemicals Automotive Carbon fibre

According to Nigel Flowers, United Kingdom managing director of Sumitomo (SHI) Demag, for example, injection molding and additive manufacturing are more complementary to one another than competitors.

-Reliance Industries, World’s largest polyester fiber maker, aims to make ‘sustainable clothing’ affordable

Bhubaneswar: ‘Sustainable fashion’ is becoming a buzz word in the fashion industry as large corporates, textile manufactures, fashion designers and renowned fashion houses are aggressively putting their act together to meet the burgeoning demand for sustainable fashion apparels.

Today, the youth is aware and conscious about the environment and they are demanding sustainable products, having lowest carbon footprints and one that can be disposed of with least harm to the environment. Petrochemicals Automotive Carbon fibre

Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), the world’s largest integrated polyester yarn and fibre producer, has taken a big stride to make ‘sustainable clothing’ affordable and accessible, taking a leaf from the success story of the group’s telecom venture Jio in getting volumes with competitive pricing, a top RIL official said.

-US PET and aromatics markets face major restructuring if plastics recycling goals met by 2030

Meeting current US recycled plastics content goals by 2030 would significantly alter the region’s PET resin and upstream aromatics markets, according to a recent analysis from Wood Mackenzie. Petrochemicals Automotive Carbon fibre

Wood Mackenzie’s analysis estimates the amount of PET bottles required to meet the 25 per cent rPET content goal for carbonated soft drink and PET water bottles is equivalent to 1.5 million tonnes in 2025 and 2.2 million tonnes in 2030.

-Equate inaugurates MEGlobal Oyster Creek site11

The Equate Group has inaugurated its new MEGlobal Oyster Creek site in Texas, US. A part of Equate’s wholly owned subsidiary, MEGlobal Americas Inc (MEGlobal), the world-scale manufacturing facility will capitalise on US shale gas. It has annual capacity to produce 750,000 metric tons of ethylene glycol (EG), including monoethylene and diethylene glycol.

“This is a major achievement for the Equate Group and will benefit both Kuwait and the US,” said Equate president and CEO Ramesh Ramachandran. “With a growing global market for EG products, it will provide us with greater flexibility to satisfy our customers’ needs while capitalising on the US shale gas opportunity. This site builds on our global footprint and is part of our strategy to grow our value-added business as a leading ethylene glycol producer and supplier.” Petrochemicals Automotive Carbon fibre

-China unveils lists of US goods to be excluded from additional tariffs

China will exclude 16 products from a 25% additional tariff on US goods for a year starting from 17 September 2019 to 16 September 2020, the Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council said in a statement on Wednesday.

They make the first list of such exemptions and more are expected to come in future, the Commission said.

-ITMA 2019 — Just a Few of The “Cool” Things on Display

ITMACoolStuffOpenerTechnology highlights from the industry’s largest textile machinery show focused on innovation, Industry 4.0 and sustainability.

If one hasn’t yet been to or experienced an actual ITMA show, one needs to go because it is incredibly difficult to accurately describe in words the sheer magnitude of the event.

ITMA — a quadrennial textile trade show owned by the European Committee of Textile Machinery Manufacturers (CEMATEX) and organized by Brussels-based ITMA Services — can be truly awe-inspiring to grizzled veterans and new comers alike.

-Beverage brands bank on rPET for packaging sustainability

Coca-Cola European Partners commits to 100% recycled plastic bottles for Honest teas, Glacéau Smartwater and Chaudfontaine brands—and to trialing refillable glass bottles.

Different continents, different tactics.

In August, Packaging Digest reported Coca-Cola Co.’s new broad-based sustainable packaging plan for Dasani packaged water that includes major moves into hybrid bottles and aluminum cans (see Dasani’s next 5 steps to greater packaging sustainability).

The company’s counterpart in Europe, Coca-Cola European Partners (CCEP), is taking a different, more concentrated path to greater sustainability.

-European construction continues to build steady growth despite economic pessimism

Traditionally, September marks a buoyant period for the European petrochemicals industry as buyers and sellers return in earnest from summer breaks, prompting a flurry of activity before Christmas shutdowns.

This year, however, the outlook for many is more pessimistic, with expectations that a prolonged slump in trading will stretch beyond the longer days and good weather.

The automotive industry continues to flounder in the wake of more stringent emissions regulations, while demand for consumer goods remains weak in response to the ongoing US-China trade war.
