-Gevo Receives ISCC Plus Certification

Gevo, Inc.announced today it has achieved its International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) under the ISCC PLUS scheme for Food, Feed, Industrial Applications, Energy, Biofuels outside Europe.

In obtaining ISCC certification, Gevo continues to prove its dedication to meeting the highest industry standards by demonstrating the sustainable cultivation of field corn, which Gevo then converts into renewable, sustainable isobutanol, also known as biobutanol. ISCC PLUS certification enables Gevo to validate the responsible nature of their liquid transportation fuels and to highlight the traceability of its biofuel, qualifying that such fuels produced in a sustainable manner. By completing ISCC certification, Gevo has verified that the feedstock, in this case field corn, is being grown in a manner that is socially, environmentally, and ethically responsible.

-Coca-Cola, PepsiCo finally cut ties with prominent plastic lobbying group

Last year, Greenpeace revealed major corporations like Coca-Cola and PepsiCo were among the worst producers of plastic trash in the world. After growing pressure from the public and environmental groups, the soft drink giants have finally broken ties with the Plastic Industry Association.

Victory for Sustainability

Both companies’ exit from the organization acts as a landmark decision in their commitments to more eco-friendly practices. The organization, which represents plastic manufacturers, has encouraged states to prohibit plastic bans throughout the nation.

-Eurozone growth slips in July as manufacturing decline accelerates

Eurozone private sector growth slowed closer to a standstill in July on the back of continuing deterioration in manufacturing sector output, according to data from IHS Markit on Monday.

The eurozone composite purchasing managers’ index (PMI) slipped to 51.5 in July compared to 52.2 in June, as solid if slightly slower service sector growth struggles against the sharpest month on month drop in manufacturing sector activity since April 2013.

A PMI score of 50.1 or higher indicates expansion.

The sixth consecutive month of manufacturing sector weakness saw Germany’s composite PMI slip to 50.9 from flash estimates of 51.4 as bearish industrial output almost completely offset service sector growth. Petrochemicals Biodegradable Biopackaging

-Trade tensions, lengthening supply maintain downward pressure on US PE exports

US polyethylene (PE) exportmarkets continue to face downward pressure assupply lengthens while trade tensions betweenthe US and China deepen.

China is by far theworld’s largest importer of PE, and US PEproducers are in the midst of a massiveinvestment wave, driven by abundantlow-cost natural gas liquids (NGLs) feedstocks.

The US PE market is mature, and traditionalexport markets such as Latin America are notgrowing fast enough to absorb the large newcapacities being built in the US Gulf, so mostproducers had intended to ship much of the newmaterial to China.

-Lanxess develops heat reflecting black pigment for plastics

Lanxess has developed a black pigment which reflects 20% more of the sun’s near-infrared radiation (NIR) than conventional products.

Plastic roofs and façade elements coloured with Bayferrox 303 T heat up much less due to solar radiation, meaning the building’s inside temperature can be reduced.

“The temperature in a polymer matrix coloured with Bayferrox 303 T is as much as 8°C lower than when a conventional black pigment is used,” said Lanxess global market segment manager for Plastics at the Inorganic Pigments (IPG) business unit, Stefano Bartolucci.
