Recycled Nylon and Polyester Clean the Oceans of Excessive Waste
Plastic waste is one of the big problems of this time. By 2050, the oceans could contain more waste than fish. Consumer demand for recycled fashion is on the rise, and more and more sports and fashion companies work with it – in different ways.
It’s an unsightly plight and causing damage to marine life globally, as plastic from our lifestyles ends up in the oceans. According to data UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme) eight million tons of waste ends up in our seas every single year, 640 thousand tons of fishing nets abandoned at the bottom of the ocean.

Prices of some standard recyclate grades on the Western European market declined somewhat in July 2019. Declining virgin material contract prices thwarted recyclers’ moves to hike sales prices for recycled polyethylene and recycled polypropylene on the grounds of increased costs.
With rPE, rPP homo and rPET flakes, suppliers even had to grant slight discounts. There were also reductions for both coloured and dark rLDPE, as some recyclers pushed lower-specified grades onto the European markets after losing important export markets in Asia.Petrochemicals Biodegradable green plastic
-Oxo-bio plastic: a potential solution to environmental issues
Oxo-bio plastic technology developed by Symphony Environmental can produce plastic which converts into biodegradable materials in the open environment.
The LA Tribune reported in June 2019 that 600,000 tonnes of plastic are being dumped by 22 countries in the Mediterranean Sea alone every year; and this plastic will rapidly fragment into microplastics. For the foreseeable future, a substantial amount of plastic will continue to get into the open environment – from which it cannot realistically be collected – and it is this fraction of plastic waste for which most countries have no answer. Exceptions include the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and other countries which have legislated to make it mandatory to use oxo-biodegradable technology for everyday plastic items. By contrast, the EU has terminated the European Chemicals Agency’s study and therefore has no dossier from its own scientific experts to support any policy on oxo-bio plastic technology.

Producers’ initial attempts to avoid passing on all of their cost relief from the lower propylene contract fizzled out as the European market was flooded with special offers.
Most suppliers offered a rebate of at least €80/t ($90), and even more for copolymers. Here, contract prices bounced back to the February level.

Scientists from RMIT University have developed a cost-efficient and scalable method for rapidly fabricating textiles that are embedded with energy storage devices.
In just three minutes, the method can produce a 10x10cm smart textile patch that is waterproof, stretchable and can be integrated with energy harvesting technologies.

-China’s Sinopec Seeks Tariff Waiver For US Crude Oil
The biggest refiner in China and in Asia, Sinopec, plans to apply for a tariff exemption with the Chinese government for its imports of U.S. crude oil, Reuters reported on Monday, citing sources familiar with the issue.
On Friday, China and the United States traded tariff and counter-tariff announcements, with Beijing saying first that China would place tariffs on a range of U.S. products worth US$75 billion, including crude oil, in two batches starting on September 1 and on December 15. U.S. President Donald Trump retaliated with announcements of higher tariffs on Chinese products.
The Aquafil group, one of the leading nylon 6 producers in Italy and in the world, closed the first half of the year with revenues down to 286.7 million (-1.6%).
