-Oerlikon Nonwoven Supplies The Meltblown Technology For Innovatec GmbH

Germany’s Federal Minister of Economics Peter Altmaier today handed over the first notice of funding to Innovatec GmbH in Troisdorf as part of the recently launched “Nonwoven Production” funding program. The North Rhine-Westphalian company intends to produce an additional 1 500 tons of nonwoven per year in the future with the two newly installed subsidized meltblown lines of which one is from Oerlikon Nonwoven. -Ampacet finds bliss in a difficult 2020

So far, 2020 has been a difficult year in many ways. With that in mind, let’s thank materials maker Ampacet for taking us to a world of Silky Bliss.

-Industry calls for ban on oxo-degradable plastics

A coalition of recycling associations has called on the government to implement a total ban on so-called oxo-degradable plastics. Petrochemicals Enzymes Automotive PA

Oxo-degradable material contains additives meant to accelerate the fragmentation of plastics into microplastics. It is often found in products such as plastic bags.

In an open letter to the environment secretary, signatories including the Environmental Services Association (ESA) and Recoup call on George Eustice to ban the use, sale and distribution of oxo-degradable plastics in the UK.

-Ocean plastics may buoy Europe R-PET market

It certainly appears as though the recycled polymer markets in Europe are developing at a much faster pace than their virgin counterparts. There is an ever-growing interest in the growth of these markets, from the likes of brands and FMCGs, virgin polymer producers, the global petrochemical players and financial institutions.

EU legislation and the global war on plastic waste is leading to a massive amount of public and government attention being put on recycled plastics.

Major global brands are making pledges to increase the amount of R-PET (recycled PET – polyethylene terephthalate) in their PET beverage bottles.

This is to either meet or exceed the EU’s 25% target by 2025, largely driven by consumer pressure, or perhaps as a marketing ploy. Petrochemicals Enzymes Automotive PA

-Latin America PP faces high degree of demand risks amid rising feedstocks

Latin America polypropylene (PP) continues to face a high degree of uncertainty stemming from pandemic-related impacts.

Reduced refinery operations have lowered propylene feedstock supply and rising crude prices will likely prevent any further price reductions for PP.

While demand for essential goods remains largely intact, industrial sectors are in steep decline.  Petrochemicals Enzymes Automotive PA

Brazil has quickly moved up the list of confirmed coronavirus cases, now second only to the US. The largest country in Latin America now has more than 550,000 confirmed cases, and daily death rates over the past weeks have been in the thousands.

-On World Ocean’s Day 2020, How Is The Fashion Industry Taking Action?

While sustainability may not be a top-of-mind issue for consumers at the present moment, some fashion and apparel brands are continuing to lean into their efforts aimed at reducing ocean waste despite that fact—which is relevant today on World Oceans Day.  Petrochemicals Enzymes Automotive PA

The reality is: more than 8 million metric tons of plastics enter the oceans each year—on top of the 150 million metric tons that are currently circulating marine environments.

This is a pressing issue when you consider scientists have found that the plastic waste we can see and measure only accounts for a small percentage of the total amount of plastics that enter the ocean.

-EU recovery package must centre on circular economy: PCEP

The Polyolefin Circular Economy Platform (PCEP) has called for investment decisions taken by Member States, the EU and all economic actors, as part of the EU recovery package to be focused on delivering the circular economy.

Mark Vester, chairman of PCEP, said: “Our members remain fully committed to the transition to a circular economy for polyolefins, with all the activity across the value chain that this entails. Petrochemicals Enzymes Automotive PA

Maintaining healthy waste management and recycling sectors are critical stepping stones towards a more circular plastics value chain. We need to invest in forward looking infrastructure that will accelerate the transition to circularity.“

-German manufacturing reaches nadir but starts recovery

German industrial production in April fell to its lowest in recent years because of the Covid-19 outbreak and measures taken to contain it, but the economy has started its recovery, the country’s economy ministry said.

Manufacturing output had already dropped in March as Germany introduced social distancing measures and industrial users turned down production.

But the full effects of these measures were not felt until April, the ministry said.

April’s seasonally and working-day adjusted industrial output fell by a further 22.1pc from March and was equivalent to only about 70pc of that in April 2015.

The month-on-month decrease was far steeper than March’s 11pc decrease from February.  Petrochemicals Enzymes Automotive PA
