-Venator to close fire-hit Pori TiO2 plant on reconstruction ‘cost escalation’

Venator is to close its titanium dioxide (TiO2) plant in Pori, Finland, by 2021 due to “cost escalation and extended timeline” for its reconstruction following a fire in 2017, the US-headquartered chemical producer said on Wednesday.

The company said it would shift its Pori technology to other sites.

The plant will operate at reduced capacity through to 2021, at around 25,000 tonnes/year, or 20% of the total, it added.

US chemical and plastics industry investment related to shale-based domestic supplies of natural gas and natural gas liquids (NGLs) has surpassed $200bn, the American Chemistry Council (ACC) said on Tuesday.

A total of 333 chemical projects worth an accumulative $202.4bn have been announced since 2010, the ACC said.

Of those, 53% complete or underway, the ACC said, while 41% of projects are still in the planning phase.

-Opec sees slower 2019 crude oil demand growth

LONDON: OPEC on Wednesday further trimmed its forecast for 2019 global oil demand growth and said the risk to the economic outlook was skewed to the downside, adding a new challenge to the group’s efforts to support the market next year.

In a monthly report, the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries said world oil demand next year would rise by 1.41 million barrels per day (bpd), 20,000 bpd less than last month and the second consecutive reduction in the forecast.
