-Crude Oil Price Forecast: Sentiment Remains Weak

Oil fell back into its familiar trading range of $65 to $70 per barrel last week after making a brave attempt to break above $70 on Tuesday. A mixed oil inventory report from the U.S. EIA added to slowing price momentum. Despite the country’s crude oil inventories falling 4.3 million barrels in the weekly bulletin, a surprising build in gasoline and distillate inventories suggests that the peak summer driving season has ended and demand could weaken.

-Will The U.S. Let India Continue To Import Iranian Crude?

India is increasingly finding itself caught between competing alliances.

On one hand, ties between Washington and New Delhi have improved in recent years in large part to what both sides perceive as increased threats from China both militarily and economically in the South China Sea and overall Indo-Pacific region.

On the other, New Delhi has also experienced improved bilateral relations with Tehran. This improvement in relations, in large part, comes from the two countries’ own oil related interests. Iran, since earlier sanctions against its energy sector were removed in 2016, has been eager to recapture lost market share both in India and the overall Asia-Pacific region as it quickly ramped up oil production post sanctions.

-Recyclability evaluation protocol published for polyethylene film

Recycling of plastic packaging film represents a difficult problem for manufacturers, given the various technologies used.

So how do you know if your plastic film is recyclable? RecyClass (Brussels) recently released a procedure to assess the recyclability of plastic films in Europe to support circularity of packaging goals.

The RecyClass Recyclability Evaluation Protocol analyzes the impact of different technologies on the recyclability of polyethylene (PE) film and the flexible packaging recycling stream.

-As lira tumbles, Turkey requires exporters to convert revenue to lira

ISTANBUL (Reuters) – Turkey has required exporters to convert the bulk of their overseas revenue into lira, a surprise move designed to support the tumbling currency, but one that industry officials say could lead to losses for manufacturers.

The lira has fallen more than 40 percent against the dollar this year, driving up the cost of food and fuel and sending inflation soaring to 18 percent, its highest in a decade and a half.

Economists say Turkey needs big interest rate increases to put a floor under the lira and rein in inflation. The central bank has been reluctant to hike, given pressure from President Tayyip Erdogan, a self-described “enemy of interest rates”.

-Artificial Photosynthesis: A New Renewable Energy Source?

An international team of scientists has made a major breakthrough for the future of sustainable fuel.Artificial Photosynthesis Renewable Energy Source

They achieved this major milestone by copying the methods of some of the cleanest energy producers on the planet—plants. Scientists from the University of Cambridge and the Ruhr University Bochum have discovered a new technique that mimics the natural process of photosynthesis in plants, which could be used to produce hydrogen fuel, an extremely clean (zero carbon dioxide emissions) and essentially unlimited energy source.

-Iran Sanctions Are Fueling OPEC Tensions

Expect fireworks at the producer group’s meeting this month.

Two months before renewed U.S. sanctions on its oil exports take effect, Iran has already suffered a sharp drop in sales and lost key buyers in Asia and Europe.

That slump will continue in coming weeks. Meanwhile, rising output from other OPEC members is fueling tensions within the producer group that could come to a head at a meeting in Algeria later this month.

Iran exported just over 2 million barrels a day of crude oil and condensate (a light form of crude extracted from gas fields) in August, according to Bloomberg tanker tracking. That is the lowest since March 2016, and down 28 percent from April, the last month before President Donald Trump announced that he was withdrawing from the Iran nuclear deal and reimposing sanctions.

-Hydrothermal recycling technology to be used at scale for the first time

H&M has opened two first-of-their-kind textile recycling facilities in Hong Kong.

The facilities, which are the joint project of nonprofit H&M Foundation and Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel (HKRITA), are putting to use HKRITA’s breakthrough hydrothermal recycling technology. This will be the first time the technology has been put into practice at scale and a miniaturized Garment-To-Garment Recycling system will be open to the public.

The recycling technology is an important part of developing a closed loop for textiles.

-China is losing the new Cold War China losing Cold War USA Economy

Beijing seemingly set to follow Soviet Union in doomed arms race with the US

HONG KONG — When the Soviet Union imploded in 1991, the Communist Party of China became obsessed with understanding why. The government think tanks entrusted with this task heaped plenty of blame on Mikhail Gorbachev, the reformist leader who was simply not ruthless enough to hold the Soviet Union together. But Chinese leaders also highlighted other important factors, not all of which China’s leaders seem to be heeding today.

-Retaliatory tariffs on US chem exports to China threaten $18bn in economic harm – ACC

(HOUSTON) -The $11bn worth of tariffs on US chemical exports enacted by China put almost $18bn in domestic activity at risk along with nearly 55,000 US jobs, the American Chemistry Council (ACC) said on Thursday.

The projected impacts cover both proposed tariffs and those already enacted. They are showcased in an economics report, which the ACC published along with comments once again urging the administration of US President Donald Trump to remove 1,505 chemicals and plastics products from the US’ third proposed tariff list of imported goods.

-Plastics More Than Recycling – Life Cycle Important

During the 2018 Plastics Industry Fly-In scheduled for September 11 – 12, 2018, the Plastics Pipe Institute, Inc. (PPI) will provide The Hill with another perspective of the benefits of plastics. PPI is the major North American trade association representing all segments of the plastic pipe industry.

“While there is reuse of plastics in many industries, there is another facet of recycling that is not widely discussed,” stated Tony Radoszewski, CAE, president of PPI. “And that is how and where to use recycled plastic to gain the most benefit. The pipe industry turns used bottles into pipe that will benefit the infrastructure for 100 years, and probably longer.”
