-Production of automotive components and polymer products will be opened in TASED Tatarstan
TASED Naberezhnye Chelny and Zelenodolsk will be replenished with new residents: investment projects of six companies were approved at a meeting of the commission reviewing applications for opening production in the territories of advanced socio-economic development of the Republic of Tatarstan, the press service of the regional administration.
Thus, the company “Koenig Modul ru Chelny” in the TASED “Naberezhnye Chelny” plans to open the production of automotive components for trucks, the Russian Automobile Company will start mass production of all-terrain vehicles RUSAK.
-Sinopec lowered December benzene prices in China to CNY300 per ton
China China Petroleum & Chemical Corp. (Sinopec), Asia’s largest oil refining company, on December 24 reduced the selling prices of benzene in China by 300 yuan (CNY) or USD43.4 per ton, a company source told ICIS .
This is the fourth time this month, when Sinopec lowers material prices. Thus, the selling prices of the company’s benzene for December deliveries of material to the eastern, southern, central and northern regions of China now amount to CNY4 650 (USD673) per ton, ex-works (ex-works).

-Sustainable ‘Plastics’ on the Horizon
A new study carried out at Tel Aviv University describes a process to make bioplastic polymers that don’t require land or fresh water — resources that are scarce in much of the world.
The polymer is derived from microorganisms that feed on seaweed. It is biodegradable, produces zero toxic waste and recycles into organic waste.
The invention was the result of a multidisciplinary collaboration between Dr. Alexander Golberg of TAU’s Porter School of Environmental and Earth Sciences and Prof. Michael Gozin of TAU’s School of Chemistry.
-Sustainable Bioplastic Doesn’t Need Water or Land For Production
A new research paper from Tel Aviv University details the process to make bioplastic polymers that don’t require land or fresh water. The polymer is created from microorganisms that feed on seaweed.
The result is biodegradable, produces zero toxic waste and recycles into organic waste. Plastics account for up to 90 percent of all the pollutants in our oceans and their fabrication is a highly toxic and polluting process.
-Saudi Arabia Becomes China’s Largest Oil Supplier in November
Saudi Arabia overtook Russia as China’s largest crude oil supplier in November, breaking Russia’s 19-month streak, data from China’s General Administration of Customs showed on Monday.
Last month, Saudi Arabia supplied 6.56 million tons, or 1.596 million barrels per day (bpd) of oil, up 50 percent from a year earlier, according to the data.
Russia came in second place at 6.55 million tons, or 1.593 million bpd, of crude in November, up 30 percent from a year earlier.
-OUTLOOK ’19: Europe olefins pragmatic for 2019 as turnarounds, world events dictate caution
Europe’s ethylene and propylene market players are contemplating potential 2019 challenges with a pragmatic view after high expectations for 2018 were truncated by external, unpredictable factors.
Key for 2019 will be cracker maintenance for several producers, and the way the market deals with them.
Another factor to look out for will be the trade war between the US and China, as its implications are likely to affect not only those two countries but the rest of the world.
The market’s optimism for 2018 came on the back of the prevailing factors during 2016 and 2017, with players expecting that low crude oil prices, healthy demand, improved product margins and increased flexibility in cracker operations would put olefins in a good enough position to weather the challenges.
-New sustainable ‘plastics’ in the offing
Researchers have developed a new sustainable biopolymer technology to make bioplastic polymers which may one day free the world of its worst pollutant, finds a new study.
The process to make the bioplastic polymers does not require land or fresh water — which are scarce in most parts of the world — and is friendly both to the environment and residents.
The study showed that the new process produces the bioplastic polymer known as polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) from marine microorganisms that feed on seaweed and recycle into organic waste.
-Sea-weed eating microbes used to develop sustainable plastic
JERUSALEM: Scientists have developed biodegradable plastics derived from microorganisms that feed on seaweed which produces zero toxic waste and can be recycled into organic waste.
According to the United Nations, plastic accounts for up to 90 per cent of all the pollutants in our oceans, yet there are few comparable, environmentally friendly alternatives to the material.
-‘Recalibrate 2019 Budget only if oil price hits US$30’
The government still has room to breathe and will only recalibrate the 2019 Budget if Brent crude oil prices dip below US$ 30 per barrel, suggests Bank Islam Malaysia Bhd chief economist Dr Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rashid.
“If we look back to 2016, Brent crude was at US$ 28 per barrel on Jan 20, 2016 when the 2016 Budget was recalibrated during the same month.
-Retal’s new high grip closure reduces plastic use for beverages
Retal showcased its new high grip closure design at BrauBeviale 2018, which enabled customers and potential partners to discover more options for plastic reduction in their beverage packaging.
Retal’s high grip closure is the same height as a standard closure, at 19.85mm, but is more lightweight at 2.45g, saving around 1.3g of weight per bottle. This is due to the way the closures are manufactured, with the deeper grooves distributing the weight further across a taller surface area.
