The European paraxylene market is likely to become structurally short of product as Indorama’s recently restarted Artlant purified terephthalic acid plant in Sines, Portugal, theoretically could absorb all available European production and still require imports, according to market sources.
Register Now “The Artlant plant will be short,” a source said. Indorama will have to “import from the Middle East or the US because [available] production in Europe is not enough,” the source added.

-Wittmann Battenfeld premieres new vertical injection moulding machine
Wittmann Battenfeld has unveiled its new vertical moulding machine to the public for the first time at a trade show during this year’s Fakuma.
The company is using its presence at the show to demonstrate the ‘Vpower’ to visitors, following the first showing of a prototype at an invitation-only anniversary event in June 2018.
With this model, General Manager, Georg Tinschert, said the company is “taking the first step” in redesigning its vertical machines to fit with its ‘PowerSeries’ portfolio.
It has been converting all of its machines to the specifications of the PowerSeries since it acquired Battenfeld 10 years ago.

A joint venture between Procter & Gamble and Italian healthcare group Angelini is working to create a sustainable recycling loop that would allow dirty diapers to be turned into plastic bottle caps and viscose clothing.
More than 20 million tonnes of disposable diapers are burned or dumped in landfills globally every year – a major environmental problem since their use became widespread in the 1960s and 1970s.

Unifi Manufacturing, Inc. and Nan Ya Plastics Corporation, America (petitioners), filed antidumping (AD) and countervailing duty (CVD) petitions on imports of polyester textured yarn from China and India.
The U.S. AD law imposes special tariffs to counteract imports that are sold in the United States at less than “normal value.”
The U.S. CVD law imposes special tariffs to counteract imports that are sold in the United States with the benefit of foreign government subsidies.
For AD/CVD duties to be imposed, the U.S. government must determine not only that dumping and/or subsidies are occurring, but also that there is “material injury” (or threat thereof) by reason of the dumped and/or subsidized imports.

Mastercard has collaborated with card manufacturers Gemalto, Giesecke+Devrient and IDEMIA, to develop environmentally friendly cards.
The partners together launched Greener Payments Partnership to establish environmental best practices and reduce first-use PVC plastic in card manufacturing.
The alliance partners will also come up with best practices around how materials are evaluated. This includes environmental impact benefits and the ability to meet increasing consumer concerns around the impact of plastic globally.

-‘60m barrels of crude oil stolen from Nigeria’
Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN) yesterday said about 60.2 million barrels of crude oil were stolen from the country between 2011 and 2014.
Speaking at the 40th anniversary of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), Falana noted that the stolen product passed through the Philadelphia Port in the United States of America (U.S.A.).
Also, National President of PENGASSAN, Olabode Jonshon, said the union would engage the Federal Government and legislature on how to evolve a new beginning for the passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB).
Taiwan joins Brazil, Indonesia, Korea, and Pakistan in the list cleared from antidumping allegations
The United States International Trade Commission (USITS) has determined that the U.S. industry was not “materially injured” by imports of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) resin from Taiwan, Brazil, Indonesia, Korea, and Pakistan, the organization said in a statement Oct. 18.
