-Inside the global war on plastic pollution

It is, in many ways, something out of the blue that everyone could see coming: an all-out battle against plastics, or at least plastic waste. It’s a fight that’s been brewing for years — decades, even. Indeed, its beginnings parallel those of the modern environmental movement. Plastic petrochemicals Textile

This year has seen the eruption of disparate skirmishes into a full-fledged war to end plastic pollution, primarily the waste ending up in waterways and, eventually, oceans. The warriors include local and international activist groups, local and national governments and some of the world’s biggest brands and their supply-chain partners.

-SIG PRESENTS SMART FACTORY SOLUTION

Today’s food and beverage production demands a digital filling line solution that can deliver a highly accurate monitoring system for information management that may be remote but is always using real time data in order to optimise operations and improve productivity. SIG’s answer to this is combiLink – a single and flexible information management solution for filling line operation.

Food and beverage production is becoming more challenging, with filling plants facing higher demands, greater competition and ever shorter production cycles. All too often, manufacturers are faced with multiple reporting systems, outdated data, manual data collection and a lack of filling line insights.

-THE COST OF PLAIN PACKAGING

New research from valuation firm Brand Finance has estimated that the spread of plain packaging to the beverage industry would result in close to $300bn in brand value losses, with The Coca-Cola Company and PepsiCo among the companies with most value at risk. The report warns that the true economic toll will likely be much higher.

Global designers unite to draw attention to, and create debate around, the issues of health warnings and marketing restrictions on packaging, and whether there are more effective solutions to change consumer behaviour. The first in a series of global Endangered Species hackathons will be launched in London on 3rd October with a live event, and will run for a month online.

-A new big discovery from the Bio-on laboratories: also from the used cooking oil comes the bioplastic

Waste oil is added to the “raw materials” already used to produce Bio-on bioplastic: beet molasses and sugar cane, fruit and potato wastes, carbohydrates in general and crude glycerol.

A new discovery that transforms a waste element, which today has high disposal costs and a huge environmental impact, into a “raw material” for the production of bioplastics.

For the first time the carbon source that feeds the Bio-on bioplastic production process is of a lipid nature.

The discovery of Bio-on researchers allows to tap into the huge quantities of waste frying oil that are produced in particular in North America and Asia.

BOLOGNA (ITALY) – Bio-on, listed on the AIM segment of the Italian Stock Market – Borsa Italiana and operating in the sector of bioplastic of high quality, presents a new big discovery: it is possible to use waste cooking oils for the production of Minerv PHAs, the revolutionary biopolymer of Bio-on, organic and 100% biodegradable.
