Mura Inks Feedstock Partnership with Elite Recycling for Hydro-PRT Site
Mura Technology has signed a feedstock supply contract with Elite Recycling Solutions. Elite will provide post-use plastic packaging to Mura’s pioneering hydrothermal advanced recycling facility at Wilton International science park in Teesside, UK. This facility, in its final commissioning phase, is set to start operations in mid-2024. Mura’s unique Hydro-PRT process will transform the plastic waste into valuable hydrocarbon products for new plastic manufacturing. Plastic sorting
This agreement builds on Mura’s existing deal with Geminor, the primary feedstock supplier for the Wilton site. Dr. Steve Mahon, CEO of Mura Technology, expressed enthusiasm about partnering with another leading company in the waste management sector. He highlighted the importance of cross-sector collaboration in converting post-use plastic waste into valuable commodities for new plastic products.
ReSource plastic sorting facility opens in Denmark
The Nordic’s largest plastic sorting facility officially started operations on May 29.
The Nordic’s largest plastic sorting facility officially started operations on May 29. Located in the seaport city of Esbjerg, Resource Denmark has a capacity to process 160,000 tonnes of plastic waste annually, significantly boosting Denmark’s recycling capacity.
When announced in 2022, the construction project was heralded as a game-changer. In Denmark, some 85% of plastic waste is either incinerated or exported.
Meanwhile, the Danish government announced its ambition to recycle 55% of plastic by 2030. Plastic sorting
German manufacturer Eggersmann supplied the equipment used to sort the plastic at ReSource Denmark. The process involves removing impurities and sorting lightweight packaging waste from Denmark and other parts of Scandinavia into different types that meet the requirements for both chemical and mechanical recycling. Food and beverage cartons and metals are also sorted out and sent for recycling.

PTA Market in China Registers Decline Despite Turnaround Season Optimism
The Chinese PTA (Purified Terephthalic Acid) market has been dealing with an oversupply situation which pushed the prices down during early May 2024. This has led to a bleak overall trend, with producers struggling to sell their products despite production slowdowns. This downtrend was attributed to the overabundance and high supply inventory storage of PTA during this timeframe. Plastic sorting
While scheduled maintenance turnarounds and reduced import bids from traditional suppliers like the US and the Middle East did contribute to some production drops, they weren’t enough to make a significant dent in the existing surplus. Despite production cuts, the existing inventory continues to outpace demand. This indicates that the market was likely oversupplied even before the recent slowdowns.
As per the recent assessment, the poor market performance for PTA has been witnessed in China since early April 2024 which continued till the first half of May 2024 to settle the PTA Ex-Qingdao prices dropped by 15% in just one month. Plastic sorting
The shift in downstream plastic and textile prioritization added another layer of negative sentiments. The downstream plastic makers seem to be prioritizing production of essential commodities resulting in buying less PTA for non-essential applications.
