-How to increase flexible polyethylene recycling in Europe

Plastics Recyclers Europe has published a paper identifying the prerequisites for increasing recycling of flexible polyethylene into a high-quality raw material while ensuring a sustainable and cost-effective process.

With the converters’ demand of around 9 million tonnes, LLDPE/LDPE is the second biggest resin processed in the EU and consequently demonstrates a high recycling potential. However, today’s recycling rate of this resin is at the level of around 31%. This is caused by the fact that reaching for higher targets and higher quality of the recycled material from this stream is hampered by a number of challenges that need to be overcome in order to reach beyond the low hanging fruit.

-Intertextile offers high performance with low impact

Major activewear and outdoor brands, such as adidas, Columbia Sportswear, Nike, Patagonia and more, have all been releasing news about what’s new in their environmental efforts. Meanwhile, social media has proved successful for smaller brands offering products, such as recycled activewear and shoes. For consumers with a highly active outdoor lifestyle, it stands to reason that they seek products with maximum functionality and minimal environmental impact.

From 25-27 September, stand-out fabrics suitable for sportswear, swimwear and lingerie can be sourced from Functional Lab, at the 25th Autumn Edition of Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics.

-Asia PX supply to surge in H2 on new capacity start-ups

The paraxylene (PX) market in Asia is expected to see a surge in new supply in the second half of the year, as new capacities are due to come on stream.

Spot PX prices started the year on a strong note, spurred by strong buying activity due to a heavy turnaround schedule in the second quarter.

Buyers had been stocking up on inventories on expectations of tightening supply.

But supply has lengthened following the earlier-than-expected start-up of Hengli Petrochemical’s 4.5m tonne/year PX facility, exerting a downward pressure on prices.

-Ever-growing problem of plastic

Have you ever seen a really cool wild animal while on a road trip or just going outside? Well, those wild animals are being threatened by the ever-growing problem of plastic.

In the Scholastic News article “The Problem with Plastic it says,” “It affects not just the individual animals that eat plastic but the animals that eat those animals.” This implies that the food chain is a big factor to having plastic in animals because the plastic will just go around in a big circle from animal to animal. This doesn’t just include animals – it includes us too. Plastics Petrochemicals Crude Oil
