Brexit and no-confidence vote: Corbyn targets ‘zombie government’

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has called Theresa May’s administration a “zombie government” that “cannot govern” and urged its resignation.

Opening a debate on his no-confidence motion, Mr Corbyn said the government “should do the right thing and resign” after Tuesday night’s huge defeat.

Mr Corbyn is hoping to force an election, but senior party figures accept they are unlikely to succeed.

The no-confidence vote is expected to be held at about 19:00 GMT.

“The prime minister has consistently claimed that her deal, which has been decisively rejected, was good for Britain workers and business… she should have nothing to fear by going to the people,” he said, referring to a general election.

Spot LDPE prices in Europe have fallen to a minimum since 2012

Spot prices of high-density polyethylene (LDPE) fell in the European market at the end of last week to the lowest level since 2012, and even lower, approaching the level of 2010, ICIS reported citing a statement from some buyers. .

According to them, last week some LDPE prices overcame a barrier of EUR1,000 per tonne, FD NWE (North-West Europe), although not all polyethylene (PE) brands could be purchased at this price.

Some price proposals for the material reached EUR1,100 per ton, but it was unclear how many deals were concluded at the above prices.

Starlinger’s recoSTAR dynamic 145 offers greater efficiency for film recyclers

In 2018 Vienna-based recycling technology manufacturer Starlinger supplemented its recycling line recoSTAR dynamic with a seventh machinery size – the recoSTAR dynamic 145 – which is designed for a capacity range of ~1,000kg/h.

This was prompted by inquiries from the area of post-consumer film (e.g. packaging film, agricultural film), wherein just such a capacity was requested.

The first three lines are currently being installed and the company has already received orders for additional machines of this type.

Just the right size

The recoSTAR dynamic 145’s predecessors, the recoSTAR dynamic 125 and 165 (the numbers indicate the screw diameter in millimetres), were under- or oversized respectively for this capacity. The 145 is designed for about one tonne of regranulate and shows an optimal cost-benefit ratio.

Global Markets and Technologies for Bioplastics

The focus of this report is on plastics made from renewable resources such as biomass or food crops. There is also some potential development of bioplastics from animal resources.

Plastics that could be produced from waste CO2 are also reviewed because of their potential impact on bioplastics, but their data are not included in the forecasts presented here.Bioplastics are further defined here as polymer materials that are produced by chemically or biologically synthesizing materials that contain renewable organic materials.

Natural organic materials that are not chemically modified (e.g., wood composites are excluded). The report includes the use of renewable resources to create monomers that replace petroleum-based monomers such as feedstocks produced from sugarcane that are used to manufacture polyester and polyethylene. Ethanol, a major product in Brazil, is one small chemical step from ethylene.

Danone partners with Amcor to design new yoghurt jar

Danone has partnered with global packaging company Amcor to develop new packaging for its all-natural yoghurt sold in Argentina.

The yoghurt jar is made from PET with a wide-mouth opening and aluminium PET closure with a 65m over cap in clear PP.

The PET jar supports the 100 per cent natural positioning of Danone’s La Serenisima’s yoghurt with featured engraving, a finely finished base, and a body-wrap label, with a 55mm finish with an aluminium PET foil barrier seal and ultraviolet blocker to protect the contents.

Amcor optimised the two-step reheat process to produce the wide-mouth jars using a Matrix blow-moulding machine, an industry first, for high volume yoghurt containers.

China’s Slowing Economic Growth Could Wreak Havoc On Oil Markets

Despite renewed hopes that a fresh trade deal could be reached between the U.S. and China by the two sides’ self-imposed March 2 deadline, it may still not be enough to offset the negative impact on China’s economic growth already being felt.

Sources told Reuters last week that Beijing is planning to lower its economic growth target to 6 percent,

The analysis comes as China saw its exports fall unexpectedly in December by 4.4 percent, the most in two years, with imports also falling 7.6 percent in their biggest decline since July 2016.

Since exports fell in December, in spite of government efforts to boost growth (including higher infrastructure spending and tax cuts), exports could also falter for several months going forward as domestic growth slows.

Ratings agency Moody’s also said in a note that “producers price inflation had decelerated for six consecutive months,” adding to other signs of cooling industrial activity (in China) amid weakening global demand.

It is also more international than ever, with the 3,025 exhibitors this year coming from no less than 65 countries, all looking to do brisk business in the key markets of Europe.
