US shale oil output growth plans point to a possible slowdown compared with 2018, as leading independent producers prioritise boosting investor returns and look to rein in their capital expenditure (capex) budgets to stay within cash flows.

The broader shale outlook is nuanced. Majors, listed independents and privately held operators are the main output drivers.

Majors continue to rapidly ramp up unconventional portfolios as the sector becomes key to their short-cycle investments, while privately held firms with solid financial backingare similarly unfazed.

Oil climbs as the U.S. and China were said to near a deal on trade that would underpin the outlook for crude demand.

(Bloomberg) — Oil climbed as the U.S. and China were said to near a deal on trade that would underpin the outlook for crude demand, while supplies around the world showed signs of tightening.

Futures in New York rose as much as 1 percent after a drop of 2.6 percent last week. The world’s two biggest economies are approaching an accord that could lift most or all U.S. tariffs, according to people familiar with the discussions. Working oil rigs in America fell to the least since May, according to data from Baker Hughes. OPEC’s output dropped last month, aided by unplanned supply losses in Iran and Venezuela.

Hexamethylenediamine (HMDA) is an organic compound having chemical formula H2N (CH2)6NH2. It is a colorless solid with strong amine odor similar to that of pipiridine.

It is synthesized from adiponitrile and has numerous applications in chemical industry. Almost 90% of the produced HMDA is utilized in the production of nylon 66. The non-nylon applications of HMDA includes high performance polyurethanes paints, epoxy curing agents, petrochemicals additives and coatings.

It also has applications as corrosion and scale inhibitors in water treatment plants. HMDA is not only used for the production of nylon 66, but also used along with dicarboxylic acids for the production of nylon 69, nylon 610, and nylon 612.

Over the years the demand for bio based HMDA has increased for the production of nylon 66 owing to the green revolution.

The market for HMDA can be segmented on the basis of application into nylon synthesis, coatings, biocides, and others. Based on end user, the market for HMDA has been divided in to fiber, textile, automotive, plastics, and others.

While the image of packaging is currently divided, the fact remains that it is still a large part of the injection moulding industry. As a matter of fact, it makes up the largest portion in both the French and Italian industry.

AMI conducted extensive research in Italy and France to determine which areas are strongest in the moulding sector. Surprisingly, the two countries show a very similar spread of end markets for the industry, except for one area. The high focus on packaging is not truly surprising.

Oerlikon presents its complete nonwoven plant portfolio for the production of airlaid, meltblown, spunbonded and hybrid materials at this year’s IDEA, which takes place in Miami, FL, from 25-28 March. The focus of its presentation will be on solutions for hygiene, medical and other disposable nonwovens.

While two years ago the Nonwoven business unit of the Oerlikon Manmade Fibers segment focused almost exclusively on solutions for technical applications, the company has now expanded its product portfolio to include solutions for disposable nonwovens by establishing strong partnerships.

Global brand owner Nestlé (Vevey, Switzerland) and Danimer Scientific (Bainbridge, GA), a developer and manufacturer of biodegradable plastic products, announced in mid-January a global partnership to develop biodegradable bottles for Nestlé’s water business using Danimer’s polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) polymer Nodax.

“Researchers have shown that PHA biodegrades in a wide range of environments, including industrial and home compost, soil, fresh and sea water,” said Stephen Croskrey, CEO of Danimer Scientific. “As a material that is reliably biodegradable across both aerobic and anaerobic conditions, our Nodax PHA is an ideal fit to drive the creation of eco-friendly packaging for Nestlé’s products. Nodax PHA is suitable feedstock for industrial compost, home compost, and anaerobic digester facilities as well as reuse through recycling. We look forward to supporting Nestlé in the years to come.”

All 54 actions under the plan launched in 2015 have now been delivered or are being implemented. This will contribute to boost Europe’s competitiveness, modernise its economy and industry to create jobs, protect the environment and generate sustainable growth.

The European Commission today published a comprehensive report on the implementation of the Circular Economy Action Plan it adopted in December 2015. The report presents the main results of implementing the action plan and sketches out open challenges to paving the way towards a climate-neutral, competitive circular economy where pressure on natural and freshwater resources as well as ecosystems is minimised. The findings of the report will be discussed during the annual Circular Economy Stakeholder Conference taking place in Brussels on 6 and 7 March.

A European monoethylene glycol (MEG) spot price recovery is set to continue after truck prices increased for a second week running.

The European ICIS truck spot range was assessed at a €5/tonne increase at both ends, bringing prices to €645-660/tonne free carrier (FCA) northwest Europe (NWE).

There was some talk of sellers achieving prices above the high end of the range, but this was not said to be representative of the market at the end of last week.

European traders have been concerned by an unhealthy spread between bulk and truck prices in Europe for some time.

Elsewhere, spot prices in Asia have recovered in the last few days and there is an expectation that supply will decrease in the second half of March.

The MEG market has been dealing with higher inventory levels in China due to increased imports, mostly from Kuwait and the rest of the Middle East.

The acquisition of UTT reinforces IVL’s position as a global leader and integrated supplier of airbag yarns and textiles. Indorama Ventures (IVL), a leading chemical producer, has completed the acquisition of UTT Beteiligungsgesellschaft that was announced in December last year. The company is one of the leading suppliers of airbag fabrics and has manufacturing sites in Germany and Mexico with a combined capacity to produce around 70 million sqm of fabrics. UTT also produces other highly specialised solutions in the field of technical textiles.

The acquisition of UTT reinforces IVL’s position as a global leader and integrated supplier of airbag yarns and textiles. This further accelerates IVL’s growth momentum in the automotive sector by bringing together a complementary product portfolio. IVL can offer a wider choice to its customers from yarns to fabrics. In addition, this acquisition will also create opportunities for cost synergies and operational improvements, according to Aloke Lohia, Group CEO.
