There have been plenty of demonstrations of futuristic electric vehicles featuring autonomous driving options that turn today’s car into a living room or a mobile office.

But at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Nissan Motor Co. and its Infiniti brand instead showcased EVs that look more like sedans seen on the road now, which are a vision for what the Japanese automaker could put on the road in just a few years.

“This is a progression,” said Giovanny Arroba, program design director at Nissan, during an interview at the auto show’s press preview Jan. 14-17. “This is a step forward. We’re looking at this for 2022 and beyond.”

That step forward also looks at opportunities to tweak materials and processes, which could mean 3D printing, urethane-based synthetic leather, subtle LED lighting and a higher profile for clear plastic screens.

Danapak Flexibles, a subsidiary of the Schur Flexibles Group, will be showcasing its flexible packaging solutions during Pharmapack Europe in Paris, 6–7 February 2019.

The company specializes in highly complex laminates that offer high chemical resistance and inertness to the transdermal industry. For those products that require significant inertness and chemical resistance, the company offers laminates that contain Barex.

However, in light of the discontinuation of Barex, Danapak has developed alternatives using the Hansen Solubility Parameter (HSP) analysis. As HSP analysis can calculate which specific contact layer would be best suited to withstand the individual APIs and excipients, the alternative solutions can be tailor-made to individual requirements.

“Take, make, waste” is no longer a viable way of operating in the fast-moving-consumer-goods (FMCG) industry.  Billions of clothing items find their way into landfills every year, plastic bottles are polluting the oceans and electronic waste is harmful.

The circular economy is a system which regenerates itself in a closed loop. Products are used, recovered, repaired and used as input to more products and not disposed of as waste. Achieving, or at least getting closer to, this situation is a mission being pursued by most of the leading global manufacturers and retailers including LÓreal, Unilever, The Coca-Cola Company, Veolia and Dell.

Levi Strauss is an example of a clothing company that is successfully employing circular economy principles. Their vision is to find practical and creative ways to extend the life of jeans, repurpose them, and/or recover and reprocess the fibres into raw material for the next generation of Levi’s.

  • Here’s why the U.S. oil market has little to fear from Venezuela turmoil

U.S. sanctions on PdVSA ‘not a big deal’ for U.S. crude oil and gasoline supplies: analyst

Venezuela is home to the world’s largest crude-oil reserves, but the sorry state of its oil industry means that U.S. sanctions on the country may have only a limited impact on the global crude market.

Longer-term, Venezuelan production, however, may score a significant boost if opposition leader Juan Guaidó succeeds in his claim to the presidency. That would contribute more oil to world-wide supplies.

Venezuela’s economy suffered under President Hugo Chávez, who took office in 1999, and has continued to suffer under his successor Nicolás Maduro since 2013. Daily production of oil had been sliced by roughly half to 1.4 million barrels as of May 2018, from more than 3 million barrels in 1998, according to U.S.
