At this year’s ITMA Gneuss will present its innovative PET recycling process with Gneuss’ reactor technology.

The Gneuss Recycling Technology enables the processing of high-volume, industrial PET waste from fiber, nonwoven or film production, and from contaminated post-consumer bottle flakes. The recycling technology is based on the Gneuss Processing Unit (GPU) with MRS extruder, rotary filtration system and online viscometer, combined with Gneuss’ JUMP reactor. This is a sophisticated processing step to accurately boost the IV of the PET polymer in the melt phase.

The first important processing stage, melt decontamination, takes place in the GPU. With its excellent devolatilisation capacity, the MRS extruder can process PET waste with high residual moisture levels and/or contamination (such as spin finish oils) without the need for any pre-treatment of the waste.

Materials Resin Pricing Canada Mexico United States

March held different narratives for North American commodity resins, with polystyrene and PET bottle resin prices each moving up, while prices for polypropylene declined.

The biggest change was in polypropylene, where prices slid an average of 3 cents per pound. That marks the fifth consecutive monthly price drop for PP, with those declines now totaling 24.5 cents.

The March downturn came as resin prices once again followed those for polymer-grade propylene monomer feedstock.

Full-year 2018 North American PP sales were down 0.5 percent, according to the American Chemistry Council, with a plunge of more than 30 percent in export sales canceling out an increase of less than 0.5 percent in domestic sales.

The blue thread moves on its way! For the third time since 2011 in Barcelona, 2015 in Milano und now 2019 again in Barcelona Retech is exhibiting interesting innovations under the motto of the blue thread and thereby remains faithful to its line.

Retech as expert in monitoring your yarn tension to perfection will show in Barcelona a further development of the long proven and successful yarn tension sensor.

A leader of the European Commission is giving his support to efforts made by the plastics industry to increase recycling.

At the Plastics Recycling Show Europe 2019 in Amsterdam, European Commissioner Kestutis Sadauskas gave his full support to efforts carried out in making a circular economy with plastics.

“For someone who works on the policy side, on papers and in an abstract environment, events like this give a glimpse of reality,” Sadauskas, DG ENV, director circular economy and green growth environment at the EC, said during his keynote speech at the event. PRSE is sponsored by Plastics News Europe, a sister publication of Plastics News.

Unilver, Nestlé, Coca-Cola and Carton Council of North America support the launch.

The Recycling Partnership, Falls Church, Virginia, has launched the Circular Economy Accelerator, a new initiative that will proactively drive policy solutions for stronger recycling and a robust circular economy in the United States.

“Consumers, businesses and policymakers recognize that the U.S. recycling system is facing a critical inflection point, but we see it as an opportunity,” remarks Sarah Dearman, executive director of the Circular Economy Accelerator. “By leveraging public-private solutions to drive sustainable investment in recycling infrastructure and implementing policies that incentivize recycling over disposal, we can put the U.S. on the path to a truly circular economy.”

Taiwan’s Formosa Chemicals & Fibre (FCFC) has cancelled term paraxylene (PX) contracts with Chinese buyers for April and May arrivals after an explosion at its aromatics complex in Mailiao earlier this week.

Chinese purified terephthalic acid (PTA) producers received cancellation notices yesterday for PX deliveries this and next month. Details of the volume affected could not be confirmed.

The cancellation comes after the explosion at Formosa’s No.3 aromatics complex on 7 April, which forced a shutdown of operations.

Formosa’s own PTA plant in Ningbo, east China has yet to receive any notification of a reduction in PX volumes as a result of the disruption. Formosa’s Ningbo unit can produce up to 1.2mn t/yr of PTA. The company has scheduled a turnaround at the unit for two weeks in May.
