-The debate: Biodegradable and compostable plastic bags
As we reported recently, a study conducted by researchers at the University of Plymouth, designed to provide insights into the environmental deterioration of plastic bags made from different polymer types, has been the subject of some dispute.
In brief, the five bags chosen for the study comprised two oxo-degradable bags, one fossil non-biodegradable polyethylene bag, one bag marked as biodegradable, and one bag certified compostable according to the European Norm 13432.
Its main conclusions, according to the official press release, were that: “After nine months in the open air, all the materials had completely disintegrated into fragments. However, the biodegradable, oxo-biodegradable and conventional plastic formulations remained functional as carrier bags after being in the soil or the marine environment for over three years.
-Graham Packaging commits to 100% reusable, recyclable, or compostable packaging by 2025
Graham Packaging, part of the Reynolds Group signed the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s New Plastics Economy Global Commitment.

-Oil from US shale on track to rise 16% in 2019
US shale operators are on course to increase oil production markedly in 2019. The growth in US onshore production from the first quarter through the fourth quarter could come in at around 1.1-1.2 million b/d, or 16% for the full year, according to Rystad Energy.
After a paltry first quarter, depressed by weather effects, US shale players over the past weeks have assured investors that they will achieve previously communicated production targets, as well as demonstrate excellent capital discipline and cost control.

-Vandewiele Show of Digital Strength at Carpet Weaving with RCE2+
Virtual and remote control now allows for the Big Data analysis that is propelling the industry forward and will pave the way for AI applications. For carpet manufacturers, all of this is leading to the creation of truly Smart Factories.
Vandewiele show of digital strength at carpet weaving with RCE2+: developed for new needs of the new era
The new RCE2+ Rug and Carpet Expert weaving machine is a truly digital workhorse, with all yarns continuously controlled and measured and the difficult bobbin changes of the past completely eliminated. This is as a result of Vandewiele’s latest Fast Creel, with the feed and tension of each pile yarn controlled by individual servomotors.
The pile yarns are now fed directly into the machine without having to pass pile-stop motions, to both increase efficiency and eliminate any waste yarns, while achieving previously unreachable industrial speeds. Polymers Petrochemicals rPEt Recycling
