-Trump Threatens More China Tariffs, and Beijing Prepares to Retaliate

President Trump toughened his stance toward China on Wednesday, threatening to prolong his trade war with Beijing, which immediately signaled that it was prepared to fight back.

Mr. Trump, in a pair of tweets on Wednesday morning, said he would be happy to keep tariffs on Chinese exports rather than make a bad deal, setting the stage for a contentious round of talks between the United States and China that is set to begin on Thursday.

Mr. Trump’s comments provoked a swift response from the Chinese Commerce Ministry, which suggested that it was once again ready to retaliate against American companies and their products with its own countermeasures.

Crude Oil Prices Trend

-Prices of PE, PP, PS Up; Flat-to-Down for PVC, PET  Polymers Petrochemicals Smart Plastics

Potential for short-lived upward pricing trajectory possible for the polyolefins, PS.

‘Mayday’ proved interesting in commodity resin pricing with prices increases underway for PE, PP, and PS, and at least slightly downward for PVC and PET.

While higher global crude oil prices were a variable for successful or attempted price initiatives, domestic market fundamentals included ample resin supplies, relatively sluggish demand, and in most cases, lower feedstock costs.

-Environmental protection: Which beverage packaging is ecologically? View

Is drunk the orange juice, it remains nothing more than an annoying packaging, the power in our trash can and our ecological Conscience strained.

Or, if it is a glass bottle, reminding us that the glass is full, and the response to the collection is no longer longer postpone.

What is often forgotten: the packaging is not only an ecological Problem, they also do a lot of Good for the environment.Polymers Petrochemicals Smart Plastics

So it is, from an ecological point of view, crucial that the packaging protect the contents as well as possible, and this arrives without any losses to the consumer.

For the preparation of a beverage has a much greater influence on the LCA of the product than the manufacture and disposal of the packaging.

Only the mineral water, it behaves differently: Here, the packaging pollutes the environment more than the content.

-Büfa and Cordenka team up

Chemicals company Büfa, based in Oldenburg, Germany, has recently formed a spin-off company, Büfa Thermoplastic Composites, for the distribution of renewable raw materials and semi-finished products for long and continuous fibre-reinforced thermoplastic composites.

Now the company is partnering with Cordenka, the leading manufacturer of technical multifilament yarns made of regenerated cellulose for high-performance tyres and engineering rubber products.

Büfa Thermoplastic Composites sees further potential in Cordenka in thermoplastics, both within the automotive sector and beyond, particularly in products requiring high impact resistance.

-Consortium to support world’s first enzymatic technology for plastics recycling

Carbios and L’Oréal have announced a major partnership with Nestlé Waters, PepsiCo and Suntory Beverage & Food Europe. The consortium was originally founded by Carbios and L’Oréal to bring recycling technology developed by Carbios to the market on an industrial scale.

Under the terms of the four-year agreement, the Consortium partners’ ambition is to bring Carbios’ PET-enhanced recycling technology to the market and increase the availability of high-quality recycled plastics to fulfill their sustainability commitments. The collaboration includes technical milestones and support for the efficient supply of consumer-grade, 100 per cent recycled PET plastics for global markets.

-Demand from India buoys PE film scrap prices in Germany

While the prices of most regrind and recyclate grades in Germany stalled in April 2019 at the previous month’s level, the quotes for commercial and industrial polyethylene film scrap ticked higher once again.

The upward momentum for scrap film correlates with the rather tight arisings.

For regrind and recyclate, the Easter holidays also put a noticeable damper on deliveries, due in part to logistical problems.Polymers Petrochemicals Smart Plastics

One product will include Elastollan, the company’s thermoplastic polyurethane at suitable for production of a wide range of materials for the textile industry, due to its high elasticity and excellent mechanical strength.

The new opaque film type Elastollan SP 818 combines high water vapour permeability with good adhesion and processing properties, especially for blown film extrusion.

-PDK offers circular solution to plastic waste

Researchers have created PDK, a recyclable plastic that can be repeatedly reprocessed into a different shape, texture, and colour without loss of performance or quality.

Key to the breakthrough by a team from the US Department of Energy’s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) is the ability to break the plastic down into its constituent parts at the molecular level.

The new material – poly(diketoenamine), or PDK –  has been reported in Nature Chemistry.

“Most plastics were never made to be recycled,” said lead author Peter Christensen, a postdoctoral researcher at Berkeley Lab’s Molecular Foundry. “But we have discovered a new way to assemble plastics that takes recycling into consideration from a molecular perspective.”
