-MEGlobal leaves the July contract price of the MEG in Asia at the level of June Termoplastics Petrochemicals Crude Oil

MEGlobal, the world leader in the production of monoethylene glycol (MEG) and diethylene glycol (DG), nominated the MEG July contract price for Asia at USD710 per tonne, which corresponds to the level of the current month, a source in the company told ICIS .

The price was named on the terms of delivery CFR Asia.

It is expected that the decline in production at several factories in Asia will lead to a decrease in the material supply on the market, starting in June.

-Europe PE net spreads low amid strong cracker margins

The spread between the ethylenecontract and net spot polyethylene (PE) pricesremains low as cracker margins get firmer on theback of lower feedstock prices.

– Cracker margins healthy

– Lower June prices hard for buyers toget

PolytunnelsContracted PE has better margins, but these are now underpressure as upstream costs plummet.

Naphtha closed at $475/tonne CIF (cost insurance freight) NWE (northwest Europe) on Friday, from a high not far short of $600/tonne mid-May.

Such a drop has left cracker margins in Europe strong, but net PE prices continue to move around the contracted ethylene price, and have done fors ome months.

-Asia naphtha hit by supply overhang; demand could bounce back

A supply overhang amid feebledownstream petrochemical demand has hit Asia’snaphtha market, although demand could bounceback on cracker expansion and restarts.

Spot naphtha prices have declined substantiallyin the first half of the year to under$500/tonne levels, pummeled by steep losses inglobal crude oil benchmarks.

On a CFR (cost and freight) Japan basis, naphtha prices for second-half July averaged at$465.00/tonne as of 11 June, down by a hefty$108/tonne from month-earlier levels and a 29%decline from the same period a year earlier,ICIS data showed.

-Achieving a circular economy begins with the proper sorting of plastic packaging

A big problem that contributes to low recycling rates both in Europe and North America is the difficulty of sorting. At the consumer level, it requires looking for the triangular symbol, knowing if the local recycler takes all seven numbers or only a few of them, and which ones. If there were an easier way to sort recyclable products, recycling rates would certainly go up.

Plastic packaging represents the biggest share of European plastic demand. However, today only 42% of plastic packaging waste is recycled in Europe, according to Plastics Recyclers Europe (PRE; Brussels).

-Green plastic?

Hanwha works on environmentally-friendly materials

Have you ever heard of “green plastic?” Most people would say that it is an oxymoron that contains contradictory words just like “deafening silence” or “original copy.”

But a Korean company actually works on developing environmentally friendly plastic as Hanwha Chemical Vice President Seo Chang-suk notes.

In a recent interview, he envisioned a world of green plastic based on the firm’s advanced technologies designed to reduce the environmental impact of plastic.

-Singapore wants year of zero waste. But it’s rubbish at recycling

Recycling bins around the city are a great idea, but people don’t know what they can put in them … or are they just too lazy to go downstairs and do it?

As Asian nations call an end to importing other countries’ trash, Singapore has some thinking to do

For 18 years, blue bins have sat at the base of high-rise flats and the entrance of landed properties in Singapore, waiting to be filled with plastic bottles, paper cartons, tin cans and other recyclable items.

They multiplied from one in every five blocks to one a block in public housing estates, and spread from landed homes to condominiums.

-Improving PET Polymer Using VUV Photons

Polymer materials are widely applied across industries due to their various thermal, chemical, and electrical properties.

The surface properties of polymer materials usually have to be modified to satisfy their application. Plasma treatment has become one of the techniques which is usually applied to modify the surface properties of polymer materials.

The plasma treatment enables an increase of the surface energy of the polymer materials, leading to improvement of the adhesion, and biocompatibility.
