Turkey doubled duties on polymers from some countries 

Turkey doubled duties polymers  MOSCOW ( MRC ) – The Turkish authorities decided to double the import duties on polymers from some countries, ICIS reports with reference to market sources.

Thus, import duties on import of polymers from India, Ukraine, Indonesia and Vietnam have been increased from 3% to 6.5%, sources said.

The exact date of the commencement of this decision and its cause are as yet unknown.

This can affect the import of polyethylene (PE) is greater than the import of polypropylene (PP).  The Indian company Reliance has recently completed a major expansion of its PE facilities, but increased duties can restrict supplies to Turkey.

Recently, Turkey also decided to lift the import duty for polymers from Singapore.

According to a review by the DataScope company of the Market Report, Karpatneftekhim, the only producer of polyethylene in Ukraine, exported 3,000 tons of low-density polyethylene (HDPE) in Turkey in July-July (7 December-December), which is 8.8% of the company’s total export volume – 34 , 09 thousand tons.

On June 9, 2017, Karpatneftekhim resumed work after five years of downtime.  Production of HDPE at the enterprise was resumed on July 6, 2017.
