PS European contract price in January rose by EUR50-60 per ton
MOSCOW – The European contract price for polystyrene (PS) in January rose by an average of EUR50-60 per ton, depending on the brand of material, amid rising quotations of the main raw material – styrene, ICIS reports citing market sources.
Prices rose for the first time in four months, starting in September 2019.
Thus, the contract price of styrene monomer in Europe was finally agreed at EUR1 017 per tonne for January deliveries, which is EUR64 per tonne higher than the level of the previous month. European contract price polystyrene
The supply remains sufficient, although this week was somewhat more limited due to the fact that suppliers closed their orders in January to resume operations in February. Import was also not offered due to the celebration of the Lunar New Year in Asia.
In the second half of January, there was a stronger buying interest than in the first half.
However, the packaging sector, in particular disposable packaging, is likely to face a significant impact this year from the EU ban on the use of disposable plastics by 2021.
Therefore, customers are switching to alternative products. This includes players switching from OPS / M to the use of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) and polycarbonate (PC).
