Polyethylene (PE) buyers are looking for better contractual conditions for 2020 but sellers are currently not considering anything worse than a rollover.

-Partnership brings recyclable black plastic to light
Henkel and masterbatch producer Ampacet have joined forces to develop a recyclable black plastic. The carbon-free black plastic alternative enables containers to be recyclable more readily than previously possible in conventional recycling streams.
Traditionally, black plastic thwarts recycling technology because infrared (IR) cameras used to scan containers cannot sort the containers, so black packages don’t get sorted and end up in landfills instead. The REC-NIR Black masterbatch is designed to be near-infrared (NIR) transparent to allow scanning by NIR technology for automated sorting at recovery facilities. US November benzene contracts settled lower, as bearish supply and demand fundamentals pushed spot prices lower in October.

-Major beverage companies lead new recycling initiative
The Coca-Cola Co., PepsiCo, Inc. and Keurig Dr Pepper on Oct. 30 introduced “Every Bottle Back,” an initiative that will invest in improving the collection of plastic bottles so they may be made into new bottles and not end up as waste in oceans, rivers or landfills. An industry fund of $100 million will be used to improve sorting, processing and collection.
“We’re proud to come together with our competitors to address the serious issue of plastic waste in our environment,” said James Dinkins, president of Coca-Cola North America.
-REDUCING EMISSIONS FROM THE MANUFACTURING OF CARBON FIBERS
Carbon fibers are typically fabricated by the oxidation of a polymeric fiber, such as polyacrylonitrile (PAN) at 200–300°C, which generates a large amount of exhaust air containing several hundred parts per million (ppm) of hydrogen cyanide and ammonia.
This is followed by a carbonization process at 1,000–1,200°C, which takes place under an inert atmosphere, such as N2.Petrochemical Polyethylene Terephthalate
The second step generates a smaller amount of exhaust N2, but with high concentrations of HCN and NH3.
Conventional treatment systems are unable to handle both the destruction of HCN and NH3 emissions while suppressing the generation of oxides of nitrogen (NOx).

-Lotte Chemical Q3 net more than halves on weak aromatics business
Lotte Chemical Corp., a major chemical firm in South Korea, said Friday its third-quarter net profit more than halved from a year earlier due largely to a slump in its aromatics business.
Net profit stood at 214 billion won (US$183 million) on a consolidated basis in the July-September period, down 53 percent from 454.4 billion won a year earlier, the company said in a regulatory filing.
Operating income dropped 37.5 percent on-year to reach 314.5 billion won in the third quarter, with sales falling 7.2 percent on-year to 3.9 trillion won over the cited period.
