-Europe PE buyers, sellers wrangle over 2020 discussions

Polyethylene (PE) buyers are looking for better contractual conditions for 2020 but sellers are currently not considering anything worse than a rollover.

– 2020 supply to be ample

– Buyers target better conditions

– Some plan to buy more spot

Buyers expect to be able to negotiate more advantageously because of the amount of new capacity already on stream and due imminently, in the US and beyond.

-Monforts at Techtextil India

Monforts Textilmaschinen GmbH & Co. KG will be providing information on its extensive range of coating and finishing technologies for the production of nonwovens and technical textiles at the forthcoming Techtextil India exhibition.

“India is already a very important market for Monforts and there are exciting prospects ahead for Indian manufacturers of technical textiles, who are well positioned to capitalise on growth opportunities,” says Monforts Head of Denim Hans Wroblowski, who will be at the Monforts stand in Hall 4, booth C52 at the show. “India has one of the largest working-age populations in the world and a complete textile value chain for both natural and synthetic fibres.”   Petrochemical Polyethylene Terephthalate

-Partnership brings recyclable black plastic to light

Henkel and masterbatch producer Ampacet have joined forces to develop a recyclable black plastic. The carbon-free black plastic alternative enables containers to be recyclable more readily than previously possible in conventional recycling streams.

Traditionally, black plastic thwarts recycling technology because infrared (IR) cameras used to scan containers cannot sort the containers, so black packages don’t get sorted and end up in landfills instead. The REC-NIR Black masterbatch is designed to be near-infrared (NIR) transparent to allow scanning by NIR technology for automated sorting at recovery facilities. -Major beverage companies lead new recycling initiative

The Coca-Cola Co., PepsiCo, Inc. and Keurig Dr Pepper on Oct. 30 introduced “Every Bottle Back,” an initiative that will invest in improving the collection of plastic bottles so they may be made into new bottles and not end up as waste in oceans, rivers or landfills. An industry fund of $100 million will be used to improve sorting, processing and collection.

“We’re proud to come together with our competitors to address the serious issue of plastic waste in our environment,” said James Dinkins, president of Coca-Cola North America.

-REDUCING EMISSIONS FROM THE MANUFACTURING OF CARBON FIBERS

Carbon fibers are typically fabricated by the oxidation of a polymeric fiber, such as polyacrylonitrile (PAN) at 200–300°C, which generates a large amount of exhaust air containing several hundred parts per million (ppm) of hydrogen cyanide and ammonia.

This is followed by a carbonization process at 1,000–1,200°C, which takes place under an inert atmosphere, such as N2.Petrochemical Polyethylene Terephthalate

The second step generates a smaller amount of exhaust N2, but with high concentrations of HCN and NH3.

Conventional treatment systems are unable to handle both the destruction of HCN and NH3 emissions while suppressing the generation of oxides of nitrogen (NOx).

-THE NEW ERA OF SUSTAINABLE SUPPLY CHAINS

To improve sustainability, materials manufacturers are welcoming new digital technologies and process innovations into their global supply chains

From palm oil to plastics, the global supply chains of many critical raw materials are evolving as consumers and manufacturers increasingly seek sustainable and renewable options.Petrochemical Polyethylene Terephthalate

Digital technologies, including blockchain, Internet of Things (IoT) sensors and modeling tools, are facilitating these supply-chain transitions by enabling unprecedented data visibility and analyses.

At the same time, chemical manufacturers are turning toward process and chemistry innovations to improve the sustainability of their raw materials.

-WFS moves to sustainable plastics

Worldwide Flight Services (WFS) has claimed to be the first major air cargo industry company to begin converting the majority of plastic products used in its cargo handling operations over to the BioNatur™ Plastics line of sustainable products manufactured by M&G Packaging.Petrochemical Polyethylene Terephthalate

BioNatur™ Plastic is a growing line of biodegradable plastic products manufactured with proprietary formulations that make them the most sustainable plastic options available. Investing in the new products is part of WFS’ global sustainability programme.

-Sulzer and Quantafuel collaborate for sustainable downstream plant

While plastic has many valuable uses, not all types of plastic are recyclable, and there currently lacks an effective circular economy strategy for these polymers.

Most of the commonly used plastics are not biodegradable and need up to 500 – 1000 years to decompose.

Therefore, any solution that has a significant impact on this situation and helps to reduce the volume of plastic waste is being encouraged.

-New Brazilian Leader To Lay Out Skimpy Welcome Mat For BRICS Leaders?

President Jair Bolsonaro hosts the 11th summit of the BRICS – perhaps reluctantly – in Brasilia. Reports on BRICS enterprises, which include the New Development Bank (NDB), and debate about the expansion of the bloc await the leaders. Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to attend.

China has been Brazil’s top trade partner for a decade, and the two nations seek to strengthen political and economic ties at a time of global trade tensions.

The summit theme is Economic Growth for an Innovative Future.
