Henkel and masterbatch producer Ampacet have joined forces to develop a recyclable black plastic. The carbon-free black plastic alternative enables containers to be recyclable more readily than previously possible in conventional recycling streams.
Traditionally, black plastic thwarts recycling technology because infrared (IR) cameras used to scan containers cannot sort the containers, so black packages don’t get sorted and end up in landfills instead. US November benzene contracts settled lower, as bearish supply and demand fundamentals pushed spot prices lower in October.

The Coca-Cola Co., PepsiCo, Inc. and Keurig Dr Pepper on Oct. 30 introduced “Every Bottle Back,” an initiative that will invest in improving the collection of plastic bottles so they may be made into new bottles and not end up as waste in oceans, rivers or landfills. An industry fund of $100 million will be used to improve sorting, processing and collection.

Carbon fibers are typically fabricated by the oxidation of a polymeric fiber, such as polyacrylonitrile (PAN) at 200–300°C, which generates a large amount of exhaust air containing several hundred parts per million (ppm) of hydrogen cyanide and ammonia.

Lotte Chemical Corp., a major chemical firm in South Korea, said Friday its third-quarter net profit more than halved from a year earlier due largely to a slump in its aromatics business.
Net profit stood at 214 billion won (US$183 million) on a consolidated basis in the July-September period, down 53 percent from 454.4 billion won a year earlier, the company said in a regulatory filing.
Operating income dropped 37.5 percent on-year to reach 314.5 billion won in the third quarter, with sales falling 7.2 percent on-year to 3.9 trillion won over the cited period.
