-Exports tumble and ‘ungodly demand’ boosts HDPE prices
Overseas appetite for post-consumer scrap plastic dwindled in the third quarter. But on the domestic side, the value of recovered natural HDPE has skyrocketed and RPET demand remains strong.
U.S. scrap plastic exports dropped to their lowest third-quarter volume on record this year, driven largely by major Asian buyers continuing to constrict import volumes while other overseas markets did not grow enough to fill the void.

Germany and the Czech Republic have raised objections at the Council of Ministers during a two-month scrutiny of the Commission’s delegated act, a process involving both the EU Parliament and Council which is currently set to end on 4 December.

-Dayuewan Petrochemical to use Honeywell technology

hyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions recently successfully commissioned a new polyester plant for the production of staple fibers for SASA in Adana, Turkey. The new plant is one of the largest single line-production facilities for PET (polyethylene terephthalate) for textile applications. Along with multinational rivals including PepsiCo and Nestle , Coca-Cola has started offering recyclable aluminum cans as well as plastic bottles for some water brands as the industry reacts to public outrage over the world’s oceans being polluted with plastic waste.
-Asia BDO market faces year-end lull, weak downstream PBT demand
A steady increase in China’s production of 1,4-butanediol (BDO) since mid-October will likely weigh on market sentiment at the end of the year.
The average BDO plant operating rate in China was at 65.4% in the week ended 5 November, up from 61.1% in the previous week, ICIS data showed.
The run rates had hovered at 50-60% for most part of July to H1 October this year.
In the China domestic market, weekly prices were flat at yuan (CNY) 8,900-9,400/tonne DEL (delivered) in the week ended 5 November, according to ICIS data.

The Hyundai Chemical joint venture has awarded a contract to South Korea’s Daelim Industrial to build the complex, which will be located at Hyundai Oilbank’s refining complex in Daesan. Daelim Industrial said yesterday the complex will have capacity to produce 300,000 t/yr of low-density polyethylene (LDPE), 300,000 t/yr of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and 250,000 t/yr of polypropylene (PP).
