CARBIOS and Hündgen enter supply agreement for world’s first PET biorecycling plant
CARBIOS has partnered with Hündgen Entsorgungs GmbH & Co. KG to supply 15kt/year of post-consumer PET waste for the world’s first PET biorecycling plant in Longlaville, France, operational from late 2026. Polymer PET Resin
Hündgen will utilize its expertise in waste management to source and prepare this waste, transforming it into food-grade materials using CARBIOS’ enzymatic technology.
This collaboration ensures a significant portion of the feedstock needed for CARBIOS’ plant, which will have a 50kt/year capacity at full operation. The plant’s strategic location near Belgium, Germany, and Luxembourg facilitates access to waste supplies.
CARBIOS’ technology can recycle all PET waste types, including those unsuitable for traditional recycling methods.
This innovation offers a circular solution for multilayered, colored, opaque packaging, and polyester textiles. Polymer PET Resin
Emmanuel Ladent, CEO of CARBIOS, highlights the secured feedstock and the benefits of their biorecycling technology, including flexibility, cost-effectiveness, and the strategic advantage of proximity to waste sources.
Christian Hündgen, CEO of Hündgen, emphasizes the importance of innovative technologies and international cooperation in advancing plastic packaging recycling standards.
This partnership marks a significant step in PET non-bottle recycling in Europe.
