Packaging plastics revenue – Dow Inc Faces Challenging Quarter as Packaging Plastics Revenue Plunges 11 Percent Amid Global Resin Price Slump and Weaker Demand 27-10-2025
DOW – Packaging plastics revenue
The materials-science giant Dow Inc. reported a significant slide in its packaging and specialty plastics revenue, with an 11 percent year-on-year decline in the third quarter. The drop reflects weaker global polymer and polyethylene valuations that weighed heavily on pricing in finished-product markets.
In absolute terms, the packaging and specialty plastics segment generated around 4.9 billion USD in net sales during the quarter, down sharply from the prior year. Broader company-wide net sales dropped about 8.3 percent, underlining that the segment’s underperformance had material impact across the business. Packaging plastics revenue
Despite the revenue headwinds, Dow noted that volumes in some parts of its industrial chain improved sequentially. The ramp-up of new polyethylene and alkoxylation capacity on the U.S. Gulf Coast helped alleviate some margin pressure and supported select end-markets. Plastics Today+1
However, the core issue remains pricing. Finished plastic products such as packaging resins faced steep price erosion in the global market, pressuring margins even where volume rose. The decline in local pricing was reported at double-digit levels for the segment. Packaging plastics revenue
Going forward, Dow has guided fourth-quarter net sales of about 9.4 billion USD, falling below analyst consensus of roughly 10.2 billion USD. This weaker outlook further signals challenging headwinds in the packaging plastics market.
Overall, Dow’s Q3 performance highlights how global oversupply, falling resin prices, and soft demand in end-markets are combining to squeeze a major plastics segment. While new capacity and cost actions offer some relief, the structural pressure on pricing remains a key concern.
