100 Percent Recycled Plastic for Every Bottle Body
Since 2021, every single-use PET bottle body produced for the private labels Saskia at Lidl and K-Classic at Kaufland contains 100 percent recycled material. Only caps and labels continue to use new plastic for functional reasons. The core packaging unit, the bottle body itself, is fully circular.
This achievement places the closed-loop PET bottle among the most sustainable single-use packaging options available in the German beverage market. A life cycle assessment conducted by the Institute for Energy and Environmental Research Heidelberg found that these bottles outperform many reusable alternatives in environmental impact when factors such as low bottle weight and reduced transport emissions are considered.
Because the bottle body is made entirely from recycled plastic and its production requires less energy than conventional materials, the total environmental footprint shrinks significantly.

Using 100 percent recycled material has measurable environmental impact. During the 2024 fiscal year, the Schwarz Group avoided approximately 65,000 tons of new plastic by using recycled granulate in the closed-loop PET bottle system. Every Stage of the PET Bottle Loop in One System

Customers return their empty bottles through deposit machines in Lidl and Kaufland stores. This ensures a steady supply of high-quality, sorted PET material.
Sorting and Recycling
Collected bottles move to modern sorting plants where they are separated, cleaned, and reprocessed. High-grade recycled PET granulate is produced and prepared for new bottle manufacturing.
Production of New Bottles
The recycled granulate becomes the material base for new PET bottle bodies made entirely from recycled plastic. This ensures the closed-loop PET bottle maintains both quality and environmental performance.
Filling and Retail Distribution
Once produced, bottles are filled by Schwarz Produktion and distributed through Lidl and Kaufland. After use, the cycle begins again, creating a continuous system of circular packaging.
