MOSCOW  – The gas chemical complex with a total value of USD5.27 billion will be implemented in the Baysun district of Uzbekistan, Uzdaily reports.

An agreement providing for the exploration and development of the Mustakilliqning 25 gas field in the Baysun district with the further construction of a gas chemical complex was signed in April 2017 with Russian investors during the state visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Russia.

The project is scheduled to be implemented in two stages: at the first stage – in 2018–2022 – it is planned to build a processing plant with an annual capacity of 5 billion cubic meters per year;  At the second stage, calculated for 2023–2025, it is planned to build a gas chemical complex capable of producing 500 thousand tons of polymer products per year by processing 1.5 billion cubic meters of gas.

After the project implementation, 2.2 thousand jobs will be created.

At present, 3D seismic exploration continues at the gas field, Eriell is drilling 7 appraisal wells.  At the facility, in particular, specialists from foreign companies Baker Hughes, Halliburton and Schlumberger work.MCC Polymer Products Uzbekistan

The project being implemented in Baysun will allow the complex development of the southern regions of the country.

The technological cluster envisages the construction of a gas chemical complex with a processing volume of 1.3-1.5 billion cubic meters of gas based on MTO technology (methanol to olefins) and producing 200-250 thousand tons of polypropylene (PP), 100 thousand tons of ethylene-propylene rubber, 100 thousand tons of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA), 100-150 thousand tons of ethylene glycol and polyethylene (PE).

Earlier it was reported that in October 2015, Uzbekneftegaz, together with a consortium of Korean companies led by Kogas, built the Ustyurt gas-chemical complex (MCC) on the basis of the Surgil field in northwest Uzbekistan.  The design capacity of the gas chemical complex will allow processing 4 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year with the production of 400 thousand tons of polyethylene and 100 thousand tons of polypropylene.  The total cost of the project is USD4.2 billion.
