-One-time summer edition for Heimtextil

Unique opportunity to establish business contacts in completely new areas through cross-networking.

Heimtextil will take place as a one-time summer special in Frankfurt from June 21 to 24, 2022, parallel to the Techtextil and Texprocess trade fairs, for technical textiles and nonwovens and the processing of textile and flexible materials respectively.

The decision to hold a summer edition this year is the result of a positive vote from the home and contract textile industry, which is longing for a re-start of personal business meetings this year. Nylons 6-Nylon66 – Thermoplastic-composite

Exhibitors and buyers will also benefit from valuable synergy effects between the three international trade fair formats.

“It is great to see the high level of trust that our exhibitors have in us, even after more than two years of the pandemic,” said Olaf Schmidt, vice president of textiles and textile technologies for show organiser Messe Frankfurt. “The need to finally return to personal business meetings and new global contacts in face-to-face exchanges before the end of this year is as strong as ever – even if the reunion this year will take place at a different time.”

Long-standing exhibitors such as the Jover Group and Lenzing have already confirmed their presence. Nylons 6-Nylon66 – Thermoplastic-composite

“From our point of view, it is a good decision to reschedule Heimtextil to summer this year,” said Francisco Jover Pastor, CEO of Jover Group.

-Domo Chemicals Expands Access of Technyl Nylons Worldwide

The company is now selling its full range of Technyl nylons 6 and 66 resins in North America and beyond. Nylons 6-Nylon66 – Thermoplastic-composite

Belgium’s Domo Chemicals (U.S. office in Buford, Ga.) has made its Technyl branded products available to customers globally. After acquiring Solvay’s European Performance Polyamides (nylon 66) business in 2020, Domo is now exclusively producing and commercializing the full range of Technyl nylons 66 and 6.

Key applications served by Technyl include high thermal and chemical resistance materials, light engineering solutions (metal, aluminum and thermoset replacements), flame retardant materials for advanced electrical protection, high aesthetic materials with the addition of new solutions for extrusion and friction and wear resistance.

In the e-mobility space, beside the new Orange shaded flame retardant Technyl, specially designed product for high-voltage components and cabling, Domo is offering a complete set of materials designed to offer mechanical, hydrolysis, flame retardancy and impact performances to a variety of battery components.

In addition the Technyl 4Earth range is providing a competitive and sustainable nylon alternative. Nylons 6-Nylon66 – Thermoplastic-composite

Lifecycle assessments show that the carbon footprint of these products is reduced by a quarter, while consumption of non-renewable resources is halved and water use reduced by more than two-thirds compared to traditional compounds.

-Packaging supplier Canyon Plastics acquired by VPET USA

Graham Partners portfolio company VPET USA LLC of Fontana, Calif., is acquiring Canyon Plastics Inc., a Valencia, Calif.-based packaging moulder, said Canplastics.

The financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed. In a Jan. 25 news release, VPET officials described Canyon as a supplier of consumer-packaged goods such as vitamins, protein powders, supplements, and nutraceuticals, as well as a growing portfolio of specialized engineered products for the medical device and aerospace and defense sectors.  Nylons 6-Nylon66 – Thermoplastic-composite

It uses blow molding, stretch blow molding, and injection molding. Canyon was founded in 1982 and has an employee base of over 100.

We remind, in 2019, Graham Partners invested in VPET USA LLC, a Fontana, Calif.-based company that blow molds custom and stock PET plastic containers for the food packaging and beverage industries and that specializes in wide-mouth PET food packaging.

Also, in 2018, Graham Partners bought Nuconic Packaging LLC of Vernon, Calif., another maker of thermoformed packaging. Nylons 6-Nylon66 – Thermoplastic-composite

-BASF expands PA and PPA offering in Europe

BASF will begin marketing several polyamide (PA) and polyphthalamide (PPA) grades in Europe that it acquired as part of the takeover of Solvay’s PA66 business.

The extensive plastics portfolio also includes Ultramid® One J, a PPA based on PA66/6T. It is especially suited for developing innovative plastics, for example for E&E applications, consumer and household electronics, and for autonomous driving and emobility. These engineering plastics, previously sold as Technyl, will continue at BASF under the established brand name Ultramid. Customers will benefit from an extensive plastics portfolio including both PA66 grades and Ultramid One J, a PPA based on PA66/6T. Thus, BASF will support its customers in developing innovative plastics solutions across all industries.

The European Commission granted BASF approval for the acquisition of Solvay’s polyamide business subject to certain conditions. As a result, BASF started to successfully sell the integrated engineering plastics in growth markets in Asia as well as North and South America. Now that the conditions have expired, BASF will bring these grades to Europe.

Abdullah Shaikh, Head of BASF’s global PPA team, said: “We are now able to offer the additional polyamides and PPAs to our customers globally. We are looking forward to working together on projects that will unlock the full potential of Ultramid One J for innovative E&E components. Because of its property profile this PPA is the ideal addition to our existing plastics portfolio, allowing us to offer the perfect PPA for a wide range of product requirements, including new ones.”

Ultramid One J will be integrated into the PPA portfolio that BASF has marketed under the brand name Ultramid Advanced since 2016. The high-performance plastic has outstanding mechanical and dielectric properties in presence of humidity and at elevated temperatures, while its low water absorption ensures good dimensional stability. Ultramid One J expands the range of component colours and designs, as it can be coloured in different white shades, in addition to orange and grey. Its very high flowability makes it suitable for manufacturing small and complex components with electrical protection. Nylons 6-Nylon66 – Thermoplastic-composite

The available UL cards show outstanding RTI and GWIT values. The flame retardant used is non-halogenated.

-Borealis partners to increase recyclate feedstocks

Borealis, the leading European manufacturer of polypropylene and polyethylene, is partnering with Reclay Group, a German specialist in material recovery management, to satisfy an increasing market demand for recyclate material for use in high-end plastic applications. Nylons 6-Nylon66 – Thermoplastic-composite

The goal is to optimise the recycling value chain starting in Germany, and will provide Borealis with access to a secure and steady supply of feedstock in the form of lightweight packaging (LWP) waste collected by Reclay’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) scheme in Germany.

The plastic packaging waste will be processed at Borealis recycling plants, extending the range of applications for which the recycled plastics can be used. This will in turn enable value chain partners to meet recycling quotas and increase the volume of plastic recyclate used in products and applications.

“The reliable supply of high-quality recyclate is a prerequisite for a functioning circular economy,” said Lucrèce Foufopoulos, Borealis executive vice president polyolefins, innovation and technology. “Working together with the Reclay Group is a strategic step towards value chain integration in securing plastic waste feedstock and improving recyclability.” Nylons 6-Nylon66 – Thermoplastic-composite
